The new Bishop Ranch Medical Center has expanded this week, with its major tenant John Muir Health announcing the phased opening of its new outpatient center amid a consolidation of local medical facilities and the health care nonprofit’s increased presence in San Ramon.

The new John Muir facility spans over 52,000 square feet, more than doubling the company’s footprint in the area and centralizing its operations, and is now in its first phase of opening.

“Our goal is to provide the community with high-quality, affordable and coordinated care in a modern, healing environment,” said Dr. Maureen Stevenson, chief administrative officer, ambulatory services and population health at John Muir Health in a press release. “Many of the caring clinicians who patients have come to know and trust in the San Ramon community will be in the new facility, now working even more closely with their primary and specialty care colleagues.”

The facility’s first day of operations was Wednesday, when it began offering urgent care, imaging, and lab services. It marks the first of three phases, the second of which is set for April 28 with cardiology, endocrinology, hematology/oncology, obstetrics and gynecology, and family and internal medicine services set to start then. In the third and final phase starting May 19, pediatrics, family medicine, general and colorectal surgery, and urogynecology services are set to debut.

“The first move in phase has gone well,” John Muir spokesperson Ben Drew told DanvilleSanRamon. “Urgent Care, imaging and lab are all seeing patients. We’re looking forward to the upcoming phases so that we have all of these services and a significant number of our providers in one location.”

The final product is set to consist of new services for John Muir’s San Ramon patients that weren’t available previously – obstetrics and gynecology, general breast and bariatrics surgery, colorectal surgery, and urogynecology – as well as additional primary care providers.

In addition to expanding its footprint and services in San Ramon, the new facility at Bishop Ranch 15 places John Muir’s hub of operations across Alcosta Boulevard from San Ramon Regional Medical Center. Although a planned acquisition of SRRMC from current majority-owner Tenet Healthcare by John Muir in 2023 was called off in the face of state and federal antitrust lawsuits alleging the deal would monopolize medical services along the I-680 corridor, John Muir continues to have a 49% share in the hospital.
