A man who barricaded himself inside a downtown Livermore business Wednesday morning surrendered peacefully and was then arrested on domestic violence charges, police said.

The Livermore Police Department responded to the area near the intersection of Fourth Street and South Livermore Avenue about 9 a.m. for a report of domestic violence. Upon arrival, officers reportedly found the man barricaded inside the business, which was empty at the time.

The police department posted on social media about 11:50 a.m. to alert the public to a “significant police presence” and possible road closures in the area.

The department updated the post at 12:28 p.m. to say an arrest had been made and roads in the area were set to reopen. The man was not armed, police said.

Police officials declined to identify the business because “the business itself was not involved in the incident.”

Wienerschnitzel and Mr. Pickle’s Sandwich Shop, both located at the intersection, imposed temporary lockdowns, but neither was the site of the barricade, employees from each shop confirmed to Livermore Vine. A Wienerschnitzel employee estimated the lockdown lasted about two hours, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The Pleasanton Police Department, Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department and Falck assisted with the incident response, Livermore police said.
