The Rotary Club of Pleasanton’s annual Halloween Spirit Run fundraiser returns to downtown next weekend with a 5K, 10K and kids races followed by a celebration with refreshments, music, an expo area and a raffle.
It’s the 33rd year for the event, which serves as one of the Rotary Club’s largest fundraisers. Money raised supports educational scholarships, local nonprofit grants and service projects benefiting Pleasanton and the greater community, according to the club.
Over the last three decades, the event has raised more than $1 million for organizations including Hively, Open Heart Kitchen, Sunflower Hill, Agape Villages, Hope Hospice, the Valley Humane Society, according to a rotary press release.
The run is scheduled to begin at 8:30 a.m. next Sunday (Oct. 25).
Attendees of all ages are encouraged to dress in costume to walk or run the 5K, which totals 3.1 miles, or the 10K, which totals 6.2 miles. Both routes begin near Workbench True Value Hardware at 652 Main St. Participants will receive a Halloween-themed finisher medal and a long-sleeve DryBlend shirt.
Children ages 12 and younger can sign up for the Kid’s Challenge, which is a quarter-mile, while kids 5 and under can participate in a 100-yard dash. Both of those races begin at 10 a.m. on Main Street, and participants will receive a T-shirt and a medal.
Registration is $59.30 per person for the 5K or 10K, $54 for kids ages 1-17. Registration for the kids’ quarter-mile race or 100-yard dash is $27.50. Those registered can pick up their pre-race packets 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Oct. 24 at Fleet Feet, 234 Main St.; walkers and runners can also register in person during that time. Race-day registration will be open 7-8:20 a.m. at the start/finish area near Workbench Hardware.
