No print edition Dec. 27
This Friday’s paper will be the final Pleasanton Weekly print edition of 2024, as we opted for a larger special issue with our Year in Review this week and then a break from the newspaper production during Christmas week. Our print paper will be back as usual on Jan. 3.
The news coverage won’t stop in the interim, however. Our journalists will be hard at work reporting articles online over the coming days. You can expect our weekday Express emails to continue, except for Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Visit PleasantonWeekly.com and LivermoreVine.com to see all of the big stories, and we will see you again in print in 2025. Happy Holidays!
Kirk for ‘Shorts’ … Vangsness too
Livermore Valley Arts just announced that actor Justin Kirk, known for his Emmy nominated television work in “Angels in America” plus his role on “Weeds”, and “Criminal Minds” actress Kirsten Vangsness have signed on as the final cast members for “Selected Shorts” at the Bankhead Theater on Feb. 2.
Vangsness and Kirk join Bay Area actress Richa Moorjani (“Never Have I Ever” and “Fargo”) on this performer list in the show that sees actors read short stories in a live theatrical experience — an afternoon of “literature in performance”. Emmy nominee Wendie Malick (“Just Shoot Me”), who was originally set to participate, has had to cancel due to scheduling conflicts.
The trio will be reading tales tailored to Livermore, “sharing stories around the theme of ‘The Power of Togetherness’ emphasizing what happens in moments of great cooperation, competing desires, and unexpected encounters in works by Roxanne Gay, Ann Beattie, Rachel Kushner and Lily King,” according to LVA officials.
Clint Black at the fair
Country music star Clint Black and Taylor Swift tribute act Twist on Taylor have been added to the bill for the Big O Tires Concert Series at the 2025 Alameda County Fair.
Black, a Grammy-winning singer-songwriter, will play the fair in Pleasanton on July 3 while Twist on Taylor (starring Las Vegas performer Sarah Jessica Rhodes) will be on the amphitheater stage on June 21.
They join previously announced concert acts WAR (opening night, June 13) and Too $hort (June 25). Other performers for the nightly concerts are set to be revealed in the coming weeks and months before the fair opens in six months. For tickets and more info, go to alamedacountyfair.com.
‘Valley Vernacular’ talk
Tri-Valley artist Carolyn Lord, whose “Valley Vernacular” art exhibition is on display in the Firehouse Arts Center lobby, is hosting a gallery talk this Saturday (Dec. 21) from 1-2:30 p.m. at the venue in downtown Pleasanton.
At the free event, Lord said she will share about her creative process for these works as well as “discuss random historical facts and anecdotal observations on topics such as water tanks, telephones, swamp coolers and lawns.”
