As part of an initiative to support local students in need, Tri-Valley Haven recently began its 2026 backpack drive ahead of next school year.

Running through July 24, the drive seeks donations of pre-filled backpacks customized to specific grade levels.

“Each year, our community’s generosity allows us to provide more than 700 backpacks to students in need. These supplies do more than prepare students for school — they help build confidence and support excitement for learning,” said Carla Rosas, Tri-Valley Haven’s director of homeless services.

Tri-Valley Haven distributes pre-filled backpacks to elementary, middle and high school students annually. In addition, the drive supports the nonprofit’s larger mission to offer shelter, counseling and support services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and homelessness in the Tri-Valley area.

While the organization prefers pre-filled backpack donations, donors can also contribute standalone backpacks or supplies. Donations are accepted at Tri-Valley Haven’s Community Building at 3663 Pacific Ave. in Livermore. The office is open Mondays through Fridays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Prospective volunteers can contribute to the cause by assembling backpacks and supporting distribution efforts. Volunteer applications and supply lists are available at trivalleyhaven.org/back-to-school/.
