After a pair of wins in the North Coast Section girls’ Division I soccer playoffs, the Amador Valley girls’ soccer team charged into the semifinals of the tournament.
The top-seeded Dons opened the tournament with an 8-0 win over San Leandro, a contest where everyone on the Amador roster contributed.
Players pulled up to the varsity for the playoffs also made an impact, including Mia Harris who scored three times. In the second half, Evanthia Michalatou – another call-up – got some time in the goal and kept the shutout intact.
Alden Hofstedt was outstanding with a pair of goals off five shots, plus an assist. Maylen Montoya also had a goal from five shots and turned in her usual stellar effort.
The Amador defense held San Leandro to only two shots, while the Dons racked up 26 on the night.
On another rainy, stormy night the Dons beat Clayton Valley 1-0 to advance to the semifinals.
Montoya got the game-winner, controlling the ball at midfield, beating four defenders and slotting it home for the game’s only goal.
The weather took its toll on both teams, as the ball was difficult to control, taking a consistent passing away from each side.
Amador held a 10-9 advantage on shots, with the difference-maker being Amador goalie Sydney Head.
The Oregon State-bound senior had two diving saves in the first half, followed by a one-on-one save in the second half.
For the year, the Dons have given up only four goals in 14 matches and have not allowed more than one goal in any game. There has only been one shot to find the back of the net in the last eight games.
Foothill girls’ basketball
The Falcons opened the NCS Division II playoffs with a 53-29 win over Antioch.
Seeded No. 5 in the tournament, Foothill got to play host to Antioch. Riley Young and Beti Terpstra scored 18 points each to lead the Falcons. Megan Ngim added eight for Foothill.
In the second round, the Falcons saw their season come to an end with a 65-44 loss at Moreau Catholic, the No. 4 seed.
Ballistic United Golf and Hall of Fame event
A club as storied as the Ballistic United Soccer Club screams for having a Hall of Fame to be able to recognize people that were instrumental in developing the club to where it is today, or to those who rose through the playing ranks and excelled on the field.
For a few years there was a BUSC Hall of Fame and people were being justly honored.
It took a hiatus for a variety of reasons but in incredible news, Ballistic is proud to announce the Hall of Fame is back!
Honoring this year’s class of inductees will be part of the BUSC Golf and Awards event that will take place on Monday, May 13 at The Club at Castlewood.
The Hall of Fame announcements will be part of the program that will also include the following awards: Competitive Coach of the Year, Competitive Team of the Year, Recreation Coach of the Year, Volunteer of the Year and Team Manager of the Year.
The golf portion of the day will begin with a 10 a.m. check-in, followed by a noon shotgun start. The dinner reception will start at 5 p.m., with the awards portion starting at 5:30 p.m.
The conclusion of the event is estimated to be 7 p.m.
The costs are $950 for a foursome, $250 for a single golfer, and a dinner-only ticket is $75.

Spring sports underway
Now that practices are taking place, it’s time to ask for help running down results. Because of the mass of sports taking place in the spring, rather than list everything here, I will do it individually.
