Dons top Grizzlies 54-42
The Dons tamed the Grizzlies Tuesday night at home to win 54-42. The boys varsity basketball team was hitting inside and outside shots: Ryan Glenn, Jeremy Liu and Scott David combined for 37 points. Matt Moellering blocked shots and defense stepped it up in the fourth quarter. Amador had a 60 percent shooting rate from the 2-point range and 75 percent from the line.
The team plays Livermore High School at 7 p.m. tonight at home.
Falcons basketball star hits 1,000th point
Lady Falcon Emily Valenziano hit her 1,000th high school point last Friday night playing against the Cal High Grizzlies.
After making her free throw in the third quarter, fans celebrated in the bleachers. Valenziano, who wears No. 21, has been on the varsity team all four years: freshman year, 48 points, sophomore, 214 points, junior, 377 points and this year, 364 points and counting.
Foothill started Friday’s game strong with a 17-point lead in the first six minutes, but struggled in the second half. Cal took advantage of turnovers, topping the Falcons 55-51. Three Falcons scored in double digits including Anissa Mendez with a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Madison Craig’s three three-pointers gave her high scorer with 17 points. Valenziano had 15 points, seven assists and nine rebounds. Megan Clark had 5, Jennifer Ong, 2.
Rage beat Novato, stay undefeated
Pleasanton Rage White went undefeated during their State Cup seeding games Jan. 24 and 25. They beat Novato 1-0 on a goal from Sadie Moore. Strong defensive play from Nicole Tsuno, Jasmine Dessouky, Monica Martinez and Megan Martin kept the ball away from their goal for the entire game. The Rage team also beat PSA United 2-1 in a hard fought game played in Saratoga on Sunday. Both goals were scored by Julia Densmore, with assists from Monica Martinez and Madison Avery. Jenna Crawford, Taylor Campbell and Christina Echavia played well in the win.

Ballistic United wins 1-1-1
Ballistic United U12 Division 1 entered State Cup competition Jan. 24-25 and came away with a record of 1-1-1.
The team played PAC and lost 2-1. Daniel Rodriguez scored the lone goal for Ballistic on a well placed free kick from about 20 yards out. The defense of Cameron Casby, Collin Blaney, Daniel Payne, Collin Alexander and Blaz Perko stopped many scoring chances by PAC.
In the second game the team was on fire and won 2-0. Sahit Menon, Eric Johnson, Alex Krause and Stephen Dougherty lead the offense and scored 2 team effort goals. Collin Richardson and Gabe Thurner did a nice job distributing the ball in the middle.
In the final game the team tied Castro Valley 0-0 in a very physical match. Dylan Tuell and Justin Taylor played well, for Ballistic. Goalie Sam Musbach had an amazing tournament having many key saves for Ballistic.
Free throw clinches win for CCOP
Kyla Peinado converted a clutch free throw with 26 seconds remaining to lead CCOP to a 26-25 victory over SM/SC. CCOP trailed by six points early in the forth quarter (23-17). CCOP’s defense trigger a fourth quarter rally as they went on a 9-2 run to close out the game and secure the victory. Peinado led a balanced CCOP scoring attack with seven points and Madison Lingenfelder followed with five points. Tracey Lem, Emily Tsivikas and Madison Steele each contributed four points and Emily Oakland rounded out CCOP’s scoring with two points. Top offensive players were Kyla Peinado, Emily Tsivikas and Madison Steele; top defensive players were Tracy Lem, Madison Lingenfelder and Emily Oakland.
