High scores and outstanding swimming brought the traveling trophy back to the Pleasanton Valley Swim Club last week in the final meet of the regular season at Robert Livermore Community Center in Livermore.

The competition was fierce for the entire meet, with Pleasanton Valley finishing with 1,795 points, just 39 ahead of the Rhonewood Sharks, which had 1,756. Other teams and their final meet scores were San Ramon Aqua Bears, 1,602; Livermore Valley Tennis Club Fireballs, 1,456; Sunset, 1,218; Castlewood Barracudas, 900; Ruby Hill Rip Tide, 869; and Lifestyle Rx Tiger Sharks, 698.

“In one of the closest championship meets in recent memory, the Pleasanton Valley Dolphins prevailed with a 39-point lead,” said Team Representative Deb Cilk.

Led by Head Coach Brett Rauscher, Assistant Coach Jonathan Marshall and Junior Coach Jessica Medeiros, the Dolphins brought the traveling first place trophy back home to PVSC for the first time in 29 years.

League records were broken by the following PVSC swimmers: Katharine Marotto, Camaryn Butler, Tessie Scavone and McKenna Harris swam the 6-and-under girls’ 100-yard freestyle relay in 1:27.19. Matthew Dotson swam the 6-and-under boys’ 25-yard butterfly in 22.34.

PONY seeking team managers

The Pleasanton/Livermore/Dublin PONY Baseball League is now taking manager resumes for its 2007 travel team season.

The 2007 program will represent four elite teams representing 11-and-under players, and players in the 12-U, 13-U and 14-U groups.

Interested parties must send their resumes to P.O. Box 1043, Pleasanton, CA 94566. Resumes must be received by August 15 to qualify. All manager candidates must be available for interviews the last week of August.

Four Heat runners head for Baltimore

Pleasanton Heat Running Club has four runners who qualified for the Junior Olympics being held this week in Baltimore, Md.

At the Region 14 qualifying meet, Theo Carter, 11, placed first in the Midget Boys’ age group in the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:51.00, and also in the 3000 meter run with a time of 10:25.00. Parker Deuel, also 11, qualified with a time of 4:51.33 in the 1500 meter run.

Sean Colaco, 13, placed first in the Youth Boys’ age group, with a time of 10:01.00 for the 3000 meter run. Colaco also qualified for the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:33.00 for the 1500. Brandon Richmond-Buccola, 13, qualified in the 400 meter run with a time of 54.9.

The boys have all shown their talent by qualifying for the Junior Olympics because only the top three runners from each region in the country make it to the Olympics. The boys all hope to go to Baltimore and run fast enough to bring home a Junior Olympic medal.
