Families and residents of Livermore are able to apply for financial assistance to participate in community classes offered by the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District as part of its Community Support Scholarship Program.
The available funds and extended application period are thanks to additional donations made to the LARPD Foundation earlier this year.
“The scholarships are still open and available. There is no deadline. We’ll continue to enroll families throughout the year,” LARPD community outreach supervisor David Weisgerber said this fall.
Back in January, the Rotary Foundation of Livermore agreed to match LARPD Foundation’s contribution of $12,000, amounting to a total of $24,000 of dispensable scholarship funds.
“The foundation has done an incredible job building support in the community in the past few years,” Weisgerber said. “It has been exciting to watch the scholarship program grow from $6,000 just a few years ago up to $24,000 through their partnership with the Rotary Foundation of Livermore and the success of the Wine Down in the Grove fundraiser.”
Typically, funds for the program are used up by the summer, but the additional contribution allowed for LARPD to extend its open application period, according to the district.
The Community Support Scholarship Program dispenses partial scholarships based on income eligibility. Scholarship amounts are offered on a sliding scale covering up to 85% of a program fee.
“LARPD and the LARPD Foundation are committed to fostering a vibrant and inclusive community. Scholarships are available to low-income families in Livermore, ensuring that financial barriers do not prevent anyone from enjoying the benefits of LARPD programs,” district officials said in a statement.
Interested applicants can visit www.larpd.org/scholarship to fill out the Community Support Scholarship Program form. An eligibility coordinator will then contact individuals or families to review the application and assist with registration.
