The Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau has confirmed the identity of a 30-year-old man who died on the freeway in Livermore after being ejected from a sedan that rolled when the driver lost control while speeding last week.
Juan Rodriguez Ayala, whose city of residence is not yet known, was pronounced dead at the scene following the solo-vehicle crash on July 16, according to authorities.
The situation occurred just after 5:30 p.m., with California Highway Patrol officers responding after callers reported a burgundy Toyota Camry overturning on westbound Interstate 580 just west of the North Livermore Avenue interchange. Initial callers also said they thought the Camry was racing a tan Chevrolet Camaro just before the crash, according to the CHP.
First-arriving officers found Rodriguez Ayala, who had been a passenger in the Camry, dead on the freeway after being thrown from the sedan during the rollover, according to the CHP.
Witnesses later told officers that the driver of the Camry and a second passenger — each described as Hispanic men in their 30s — got themselves out of the wrecked car and drove away from the area in a white SUV uninvolved in the crash, the CHP said.
Both remain at-large as of Tuesday afternoon, according to CHP Officer Robert Purl. Anyone with information about the fatal crash can call CHP-Dublin at 925-828-0466.
