The Promote Leadership in Aspiring Youth Foundation held its sixth annual PLAY Youth Fundraising Concert virtually on April 10, raising $10,000 for Pleasanton Partnerships in Education (PPIE), San Ramon Foster Youth & Homeless Services, and Pleasanton Foster and Kinship Support.
The PLAY Foundation, a nonprofit organization, has encouraged students to continue using their passion and skills to support the school district and the community during the pandemic.
“What PLAY are really doing is creating the leaders for tomorrow, taking youth and giving them opportunities to lead,” PPIE Executive Director Steve McCoy-Thompson said. “It’s so critical at this time for our young people to lead and create the kind of community that we want.”
The music showcase included classical and pop, as well as a composition written by a PLAY orchestra member, Julian Xiao. Performances were by soloists as well as a variety of ensembles including orchestra, band and chamber ensembles, with diverse musical training in wind, strings, jazz and classical piano and vocal.
“We partnered with PLAY three years ago, and can’t tell you what a success it has been for the Foster and Kinship Program having PLAY as one of the great compassionate partners,” said Brenda Montgomery, from the Pleasanton school district’s Foster and Kinship Support Program.
