The Pleasanton City Council will consider hiring a San Jose engineering firm to handle an ongoing program of inspecting bridges in the city to evaluate their safety and make recommendations for structural improvements.
There are 88 bridges in Pleasanton with 23 that are not actively inspected. Others are periodically inspected by the Caltrans state highwway and others by city staff engineers.
The contract to be considered tonight would go to Biggs Cardosa Associates of San Jose, which submitted has performed engineering services for the city in the past and is recommended by the city’s engineering staff as qualified to provide the required services.
The contract would be for services through next June 30, 2016, at an amount not to exceed $750,000. Both federal and city funds are listed in the current fiscal year municipal budget for four bridge-related improvements.
The council also will review a schematic design for improvements to Lions Wayside and Delucci community parks on First Street. A specific plan advanced by the Parks and Recreation Commission calls for extending Lions Wayside over the drainage ditch to link the park to the Firehouse Arts Center. The bandstand used for concerts in the park would also be moved to allow more space for concert go-ers.
The council meeting will start at 7 p.m. tonight in the Civic Center at 200 Old Bernal Ave.
