The Palo Alto VA Health Care System has a new slate of upcoming renovations funded by a $4.8 billion nationwide maintenance package that include work at its Menlo Park, Livermore and Palo Alto campuses.
About $2.2 billion of that funding has been allocated so far to VA hospitals across the nation. The Palo Alto Veterans Affairs Health Care System announced six maintenance projects in a press release July 21, including renovating the Palo Alto campus’ microbiology lab and repairing steam lines at the Menlo Park campus at 795 Willow Road.
“This funding allows VA Palo Alto to continue modernizing and improving, so our facility remains safe, efficient, and equipped to provide high-quality care for our Veterans in (the) San Francisco Bay Area,” Jean Gurga, executive medical center director of VA Palo Alto, said in the press release.
Other projects on the Palo Alto campus, located at 3801 Miranda Ave., will replace the air-handling unit in Building 7 and upgrade radiology patient safety in Building 100’s G-wing. Modernizations are also coming to the Livermore campus.
The Palo Alto VA hospital branch serves more than 67,000 veterans across Northern California and Nevada. The system has campuses in Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Livermore, and four outpatient clinics in San Jose, Capitola, Marina and Fremont, totaling 600 beds.
The Department of Veterans Affairs announced the nationwide $4.8 billion one-time maintenance investment in January, part of a push to improve and modernize healthcare infrastructure for patients. A press release from January calls it the VA’s largest non-recurring maintenance investment in a single year.
