East Coast chain Duck Donuts, known for its colorful donuts made to order, has expanded into the Bay Area for the first time with a new store opening in Walnut Creek this month.

The lone Northern California shop, located at 2920 N. Main St., welcomed customers for the first time last weekend – five months after its impending arrival was announced for the first time by the local franchise.
“You’re in luck! The first and currently only Duck Donuts location in the Bay Area is open in Walnut Creek. You can head over to grab your ‘bundles of happiness’ today,” management said in a Facebook post Feb. 7. Ensuing posts saw the store try to catch customers’ eyes for Super Bowl Sunday and Valentine’s Day.
The Walnut Creek store is situated between Starbucks and IHOP in the shopping center at the northeast corner of North Main Street and Treat Boulevard that also features Walgreens and BevMo! as anchor tenants. In addition to warm donuts fried and decorated in real-time in front of customers, Duck Donuts serves hot and cold coffee drinks, breakfast sandwiches and ice cream treats.
Founded in the communities of Duck and Kitty Hawk on North Carolina’s Outer Banks in 2007, Duck Donuts began franchising in 2013 and has stores in more than half of states in the USA and a handful of other countries including Egypt, Thailand, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Northern Ireland, according to its website.
Now headquartered in Pennsylvania, the company first ventured to the West Coast with a store in Huntington Beach in 2018 and currently has three locations in Southern California.
