The Mines Fire burning in Santa Clara County had scorched 283 acres and stood at 25% containment, Cal Fire said Monday evening.
The fire, which was first reported just after 2 p.m. on Sunday, has now burned 283 acres as of Monday at 5 p.m. after better mapping was used to bring the acreage up from 172 acres previously reported. Cal Fire also confirmed the location of the wildfire was farther southeast than originally reported after the agency initially indicated it was closer to rural unincorporated Livermore and the Alameda County border.
On Sunday night, CalFire said crews had halted the fire’s progression, and it had been holding at 40% containment through Monday morning. But by Monday afternoon, authorities said containment had shrunk to 25%.
However, Cal Fire said it believes it has a good handle on the fire.
“Air resources have made significant work in implementing retardant lines in conjunction with dozer containment lines,” said a spokesperson for Cal Fire on Monday evening. “Firefighters are also working hard to secure containment lines and continue mopping up. Additional resources are enroute to support current resources for dayshift tomorrow.”
The fire is centralized near Mines and San Antonio Valley roads in the San Antone Valley.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
