At the heart of our mission is a commitment to journalism that strengthens our communities.
Every week, our reporters deliver in-depth, award-winning stories that illuminate local issues in the Tri-Valley, from housing and hunger to education and economic development.
We attend city council, county government, and school board meetings, following policies that shape daily life and holding officials and powerful interests accountable through persistent, transparent reporting. In election years, we help voters make informed choices with clear, unbiased coverage, candidate forums, and reporting that gives Tri-Valley residents the insight they need at the ballot box.
At last year’s California Journalism Awards, announced in May, Embarcadero Media Foundation publications earned twelve First Place awards, including three for work published in the Pleasanton Weekly.
Winning the top award in the Editorial Comment category was an article by Gina Channell Wilcox detailing how changes in commerce and technology have wreaked havoc on traditional revenue streams for publishers, forcing many local news outlets to close, while others, like ours, have transitioned to a nonprofit structure.
Impactful local journalism empowers civic engagement, fosters transparency, and ensures our residents are informed and resilient. We are proud to deliver trusted news coverage that reflects the needs and aspirations of the Tri-Valley communities we serve.
Last year was our first year operating in the black since 2018, thanks to both community generosity and careful cost-cutting measures, such as moving and downsizing our offices. Donations from readers covered nearly 20% of our total operating expenses, bridging the gap between those and our other revenue sources.
This year, we need to continue to raise donation revenue to sustain this essential work. We’ve also set our sights on expanding and enhancing our editorial coverage. With your support, we’re committed to serving our community for the long term.
Thank you for being part of our journey and for helping ensure that local news continues to make a lasting impact.
