Livermore’s Community Service Day, a citywide program to encourage volunteerism, has been rescheduled for Sept. 7 following a rain-out in May.
On this day, Livermore residents of all skill-levels are encouraged to volunteer for one of 21 projects to enhance and beautify the city. Afterward, they are invited to a celebratory event.

The Community Service Day is being organized by the city of Livermore, Livermore Area Recreation and Park District (LARPD), and Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District (LVJUSD). Their teamwork ensures this event has the maximum impact on the community, according to city officials.
For the 10th year of this program, volunteers will work on projects like park and school clean-ups, invasive plant removal at Sycamore Grove, tree planting, painting and donation drives, among others.
“These environmental efforts support urban biodiversity and ecological balance, further enhancing the quality of life in Livermore,” city officials said of the tree planting on Community Service Day.
After clean-up activities, volunteers and donors are invited to a Volunteer Opportunity Fair and complimentary lunch at Las Positas College. Here, community members can listen to live music by Crawdad Republic as they learn about local nonprofits and year-round volunteer opportunities.
As of Aug. 16, the city has 200 of the 500 volunteers they’re looking for, though they will accept as many volunteers as are willing to participate.

Projects are expected to last from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and registration is recommended but not required. Drop-ins can stop by Las Positas on Community Service Day and be sent to project sites in need.
The fair will start at 11:30 a.m. and run until 1:30 p.m.
Other upcoming volunteer opportunities include Applefest at Ravenswood on Aug. 25, Youth Triathlon on Sept. 8 and Family Sock Hop on Sept. 21.
