I-680 closure is on
With the forecast looking clear, Caltrans officials confirmed that the I-680 southbound closure in the Tri-Valley remains on as scheduled for this weekend.
The freeway will be fully shut down in the southbound direction between the I-580/I-680 connector in Pleasanton down to the Koopman Road interchange in Sunol from 9 p.m. this Friday (March 15) to 4 a.m. Monday (March 18) to allow for major repaving work. The southbound sides of Foothill Road and Pleasanton Sunol Road will also be closed through the area.
Originally planned for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day weekend and later the Presidents’ Day weekend, the project was canceled due to inclement weather both times and ultimately rescheduled for this St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Caltrans officials noted that with the holiday festivities on Saturday and Sunday, all freeway ramps into Dublin on I-580 and I-680 will be open.

State of the City
Mayor Karla Brown is set to deliver Pleasanton’s annual State of the City address at a luncheon event organized by the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce later this month.
The speech typically sees the mayor update attendees on recent activities and initiatives undertaken in the city during the previous year while also looking ahead to developments on the horizon for Pleasanton in the ensuing months and beyond.
The event is scheduled to run from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on March 26 at the Palm Event Center in the Vineyard in Pleasanton.

Library book sale
The Friends of the Pleasanton Library is holding its “Spring Book and Media Sale” next week at the downtown facility.
This is a great opportunity to pick up some tremendous bargains for your family, friends and yourself – and help raise needed funds for the library,” the nonprofit said. “The book sales help the Friends generate funds for the many programs, activities and needs of the Pleasanton Public Library. Your participation in the book sales makes a big difference.”
The event features nearly new books, CDs, DVDs, albums, games and puzzles for sale, including the nonprofit’s popular “$7/bag” offering. The volunteers will accept cash, check or card.
The book sale will run from next Thursday to Sunday (March 21-24) at the library, 400 Old Bernal Ave. For more details, visit www.friendsofthepleasantonlibrary.org.
