If Swalwell were serious about BART to Livermore, where was he when so much money was spent building the Dublin/WPLEASANTON BART station, rather than using those funds to EXTEND BART to Livermore?

I'm not sure what he means by indicating he wants to prevent backsliding, eliminating regulations that were put in place by the previous administration that focused on "transforming America to a socialist state". And, sending money in the middle of the night to our countries enemies. Is he still afraid to call "muslim terrorism" what it is. I would like to see him come out of the closet on items like this, the stupid carbon tax and our governors life dream of a train to nowhere, where hundreds of millions have been spent and nobody wants it. And, I would like to see his comment regarding the state spending $25.1 billion on illegals while neglecting improving our water supply, roads and bridges which are in need of repair. Somehow these things never get brought up do they? He represents all of us here not just his democratic throwbacks like Barbara Lee and alt-left lawyers.

Was this "article" really just a PR piece that Swalwell (or his staff) wrote? What a puff piece!
How's about doing some real investigative reporting Pleasanton Weekly?

I appreciate that Representative Swalwell returns every weekend. I also appreciate that his staff responds to the letters and emails I send. We don't agree on every issue but that is to be expected. I do expect my representative to do the best he can, and I think Swalwell is trying.

I totally agree with Hotslide. While I agree with most of Mr Swalwell's policies, I don't appreciate his criticism of the President. Insinuating that people are racist or discriminatory is a page right out of the far-left playbook. He fails to mention the total obstructionism by the Democrats, and has forgotten that Mr. Obama himself deported 3 million people, as many as Bush and Clinton combined.
I am a big fan of more traffic lanes for everyone, I am not for restricted lanes that can only be used by a "special" class of driver. My tax money paid for those lanes too. One thing badly needed is a 4 lane hi-way from the central valley to the south bay area. There is an existing road that could be improved, taking lots of truck traffic off of 580.
As for the 2018 elections, I can't wait. Over 1,000 elected seats were lost under Mr. Obama, but the Dems still don't get the message. Look at the leftist radicals they are considering as their new leadership.
As for EOs, Mr. Obama was very prolific; the President has only begun to erase the damage done.
Expecting a new health plan and tax reform in 30 days is ludicrous, and Mr. Swalwell knows that. I'm not sure how he became a Democrat, unless it was just to get elected. I think he is trying to walk a very fine line politically, and I would not be surprised if he changes his tune a bit after 2018.

I've had poor responses from Swalwell's office in the past, but this is an informative, well-written article. Thanks PW.
Swalwell's bill that would "create a bipartisan, independent commission to probe Russian interference in the presidential election and efforts by other foreign entities as well as make recommendations for future security strategies" gained a Republican co-sponsor yesterday. Amazing, there is one Republican Congressman who isn't sucking up to Trump. We have 13 California Congressman who are still drinking the Trump Kool-Aid. I'll put together the list with addresses and post it on PW next week.

I respectfully request that you read, and read VERY carefully, David Horowitz' BIG AGENDA". If you do not read it, you will still be among those people who have their heads in the sand and are uniformed.
President Trump can save the USA and you and other loyal American Democrats can help him achieve this goal. On the other hand, senseless ubamerican obstructionist resistance by the democrats and Soros fu Desert anarchists will serve only to further our Obama-caused division. Get smart and wake up, young man! Divorce yourself from your socialist party leaders. So what if you don't get re-elected and have to get a regular job! Btw, who is paying for your weekly trips back and forth between D.C. and Dublin

These comments by Swalwall are consistent with the rhetoric and nonsense that the Democratic party is pedaling about the Russian's hacking the election, sandwiched by some touchy-feely babble about caring for constituents and wanting to make a difference. If he is serious about working across party lines to bring about change, then he should start with himself and stop encouraging people to "resist this president," which has become the new obstructionist platform that the Democratic party is pushing.
Additionally, criticizing President Trump's use of executive order brings to light the evidence that Stalwall has been asleep for the last eight years during the Obama administration and that he prefers to take the easy way out and recite the partly line rather than standing up, taking and honest look at where the country really is, and then providing real leadership.
My takeaways from this light-weight article are these: (1) evidence that fake news exists even at the local, small town level, (2) satisfaction that I did not vote for Mr. Stalwall, and (3) that any hope of bi-partisan leadership is not going to happen because the Democratic leaders are too focused on providing safe spaces for cupcakes than supporting the leader of the greatest nation in the world and giving him a chance to make America great again. #wakeup

To begin with, I am not a fan of Mr. Swalwell. I have had an opportunity to view him on liberal TV where he was quite comfortable with the softball questions, however; on conservative TV (Tucker Carlson), where he wasn't asked the easy comfortable questions, he dodged, squirmed, and blabbered around the issues. His work here, as determined by his answers, is to fight Trump at every step, defend the illegal aliens, support the entry to California of more and more refugees, all at the expense of tax payer dollars. For him, American citizens, and in particular Californians, do not come first. There is a 'Monster Vote' out there in this state. I believe Brown and the others will hear from us soon. We don't want to go the way of Europe.

Swalwell, like the other naysayers and those in the resistance movement, need to realize that we are ONE country and work, not to continue the divide, but to bring us together in unison! We put up with the previous useless, Socialist and clueless President before Trump. Did you see destructive protests in the street and screaming and yelling and nitpicking everything he did? NO.Trump is far from perfect, but he was clearly the better choice of the two. I firmly believe he has a heart for what is best for the country. He may make some mistakes along the way, but in the end, the results will be for the better. So, shut up, grow up and come together.

@ Mike Moreno
Your defense of the POTUS is both uneducated and really indefensible
1) Steve Bannon - leader of Brietbart news - proven facist and now pedophiliac
Could we have a bigger creep in our Government?
2) Build a wall and keep them Mexican rapist and murders out -- then we will either starve or pay $20 for each tomato as whoever will pick our vegetables will be highly compensated. We are delusionary to not think that the main reason the Mexican's are coming in illegally is because it allows us to exploit the cheap labor.
As far as recommended reading - 1984 or Mein Komf - since the Truno election was right out of the Hilter playbook. s someone who has served our country you of all people should stand for its' liberties.

Why is that people, such as yourself, over work and over use the labels 'Nazi,' 'Hitler,' and 'Racist'? Remember what 'Nazi' stood for: The Nationalist Socialist German Workers Party. I'm not here to defend Trump, but Trump is not a Socialist by any definition. Perhaps you should acquire a bigger vocabulary.

I agree with @jake waters and his response to @me:
I agree with @Jake waters on the points about resorting to puerile name calling directed at people who believe it is important to protect our national boarders, to enforce existing laws, to value life, and to provide social and economic opportunities for the citizens of our country. I am tired of the callow and sophomoric language used by the left to make good citizens who care deeply about their country out to sound like horrible, vile people. Somewhere the terms nationalist and populist have taken on a negative connotation and have become disturbingly confused with (and wrongly used interchangeably with) racist, dictator, elitist, and socialist.
In general and sweeping terms, I believe our country has become soft, and we have lost that competitive edge and our toughness. Somewhere our values have given way to instant personal satisfaction, and I believe the President Trump has set the right domestic and foreign agendas that will help us get back on course so that we can continue to be the greatest country in the free world.

Jake -
"Remember what 'Nazi' stood for: The Nationalist Socialist German Workers Party. I'm not here to defend Trump, but Trump is not a Socialist by any definition. Perhaps you should acquire a bigger vocabulary."
No, Don isn't a Socialist, nor was Hitler - he was part of an unhinged far right wing movement. He crushed the socialist wing of the party in 1934 but retained the 'Socialist' moniker to mislead the German public. Hitler hated socialism and also communism -one of the primary reasons for invading Russia.
"Why is that people, such as yourself, over work and over use the labels 'Nazi,' 'Hitler,' and 'Racist'" -these labels are used because either they are true or there are frightening parallels to Germany in the 1930's (take a look at the Nazi Party Platform -#23 relating to the press is very interesting given the current climate, particularly with today's news that selected news agencies were banned from a Trump press event.)

Good call Helen.
Swalwell voted no against Kate's Law.
Kate was one of our own.
Kate was shot by an illegal immigrant that is a convicted felon, because San Francisco allows criminals to roam the streets, in full support of, and into the open arms of the mayor, Nancy Pelosi, and our own Eric Swalwell.

I was critical of Swalwell during his first term, but he has improved over the years and now represents this District well. I guess it takes a few years or a couple of two-year terms to learn your way around in DC. It's nice that he can work across party lines to get things done and isn't part of the partisan gridlock.

Joe, you and the smaller number of anti-Trump enthusiasts (and this anti-Trump movement is small, but the mainstream media provides it airtime, which gives it the appearance of some large movement) are very dramatic with your negative comments. Were you this honest about ex-President Obama or Hillary? Your kind is overworking the Hitler/Nazi hysteria to the point of adnauseam. Try something else.

Jake,
My father was a pilot in the RAF during WW2, my mother grew up on the south coast of England and was nearly killed by a strafing German fighter walking home from work, and my uncle was hauled off the beach at Dunkirk. Take the time to talk to that generation and get their opinion- it's enlightening -so please, don't accuse me of overworking the Hitler hysteria. And time check your history before posting.

When I-580 gets repaved over the Altamont, get it to include HOV lanes. Add a major fee-funded park/ride lot in far eastern Alameda County at the mis-named Grant Line Road/580 interchange.
Two unrelated "Grant Line Road" interchanges six miles apart - one on 580 and one on 205 - are confusing; I wish Alameda County would re-name their Grant Line Road "Haggerty Drive". Scott Haggerty has been County Supervisor there for over 20 years and headed MTC and BAAPCD, both heavily involved in vehicular traffic.
Use the parking fees to help fund buses to BART, or future BART and/or ACE rail. Give Central Valley commuters a reasonable alternative to driving alone.

This will be my last comment Joe, and you can have the floor. Your story is heartfelt, but doesn't play here. You have taken a leap of faith. My father fought in WWII, and if he were alive today he would be very angry at those that want to label this President anywhere near the likes of Hitler or a Nazi regime. Please stop your hysterical rhetoric, I'm older then you think.

Keep drinking the Trump/Bannon kool-aid, folks, and see how far that gets you. You think Trump staffed anti-establishment billionaires in his cabinet to help the little folk? You think he's gaslighting the country and spinning reality a la 1984 to help you?
Wake up. Hate Hillary and the Dems all you want, that's fair game. But you cannot be on-board with Trump's fascism and call yourself a real conservative at the same time.
Swalwell is right to ask legitimate questions about Trump's known connections to Russia. Keep up the good fight!

You know its an interesting accusation that this partisan congressman makes regarding Trumps 'alleged' Russian connections..
If Trump were connected to the Russians in any way, shouldn't he be doing the following:
-Limiting fracking as much as possible
-Blocking oil and gas pipelines
-Opening negotiations for major nuclear arms reductions
-Cutting U.S. military spending
-Trying to reduce tensions with Russia’s ally Iran
But the FACTS are that he is doing the opposite of these things.
What's even more astounding is the left and the neo-cons rush to make villains of the Russians as a bad-player when economically speaking, Russia couldn't economically wage an all-out war between us: Web Link
That Trump is fulfilling his campaign promises is scaring the dems (and especially the GOP).
The Dems and Repubs are out there ACTIVELY working against the citizens of both parties by feeding us these scary talking points regarding "hacking" and Russian influence, instead of focussing on the real issue of Government entitlement, where the REAL money is located: Military procurement; welfare and medicaid fraud and corruption; illegal immigration; crumbling infrastructure and the governmental graft involved in all of the above.
Russia is the problem?
That's exactly what they want you to think.
a resident of Another Pleasanton neighborhood

Actually Trump isn't doing what he promised. He kept saying he would 'remember those forgotten' I always took that to mean the middle class.
what exactly has he and the GOP done for the middle class so far??
And when will he and his staff learn to either speak factually, or keep their mouths firmly shut? Embarrassing how many things they say that are easily proven to be lies.

Classic example above from commenter Justhere.
Here we are 30 days into his presidency and Justhere expects that overnight, Trump will change failed politics and government accountability that has been ongoing for 60 years (since the War on Poverty).
That Trump has had a positive effect on the stock market; that he has reduced the debt $12 billion in his first month when Obama increased it $200 billion his first month is of no consequence. That he has signed EO's that will significantly and positively affect American citizens is also of no consequence to Justhere.
For people like Justhere, its all in the style instead of the substance.

And as if a gift from a higher power: Web Link
The link is a article regarding a former congressman, Jesse Jackson jr, who collects $138k a year in government disability for having Bi-polar disorder.
I say "former" because he was put in jail after being convicted of campaign finance fraud.
So here we have a perfect example of how government is taking our taxes, and giving it to a convicted felon, ex-politician who's family is more than capable of paying for health coverage.
Please, I want some Liberal/Democrat to rationally tell me why this is perfectly acceptable?
a resident of Another Pleasanton neighborhood

I don't see where you state what he has done, mentioned, said he'd work on, items for the middle class?
Nor his and his staff completely inability to say things that are factual and easily proven to be false immediately after uttering them.
30 days of the first 100 gone. Where is the tax reform? He can't even get ACA fixed/amended/replaced.
His EO he touted, down in flames.
Please, let us know when he does something for the middle class. We are waiting.

"He" cannot make congress work any faster or harder. We DO have a 3-tiered system of government, you know.
That you want a dictatorship is indicative of your statement.
Trumps top 10 achievements so far as of Feb 18th: Web Link
-Freezing all Federal Hiring Outside of the Military
-Pulling Support for the Obama Drive to Force Women to Allow Men in Their Bathrooms
-Reinstating The Mexico City Policy
-Ordered Federal Agencies To Cut Two Regulations For Every New One They Propose
-Putting Out An Executive Order Asking The DOJ And Homeland Security to Withhold “Federal Funds, Except As Mandated By Law” From Sanctuary Cities
-Approving The Dakota Access Pipeline And The Keystone Pipeline
-Killing The Trans-Pacific Partnership Trade Deal
-Undermining Obamacare
-Ordering The Construction Of The Border Wall
-Selecting Neil Gorsuch For The Supreme Court
So other than the 10 above, Trump has done ABSOLUTELY NOTHING while in office. /sarcasm.
And there's lots more but I don't have time to do ALL your homework.

1. How do you feel about sanctuary cities , don't you think the voters should decide that?
2. Did you support AB 109 and Prop 47 , the early prisoner release program?
3. Why did you vote against Kate's Law?
And an observation.... if there was Russian hacking and influence it happened under the last administration and President Obama scoffed at the mere mention when he was asked about it .

Trump did freeze Federal hiring outside of military, but this effects many non-government employees. This effects military families overseas that have their children in preschool. This effects rural folks that depend on government jobs for income. National Parks rely on seasonal help, and many elderly folks rely on those jobs to supplement their SS income. The tourist industry is also starting to see the effects by Trump's comments and actions.
Trump promised jobs, so far he hasn’t delivered. The jobs he states he helped create were already in the works by those companies.
He has cut government jobs.

Stephen Bannon is Trump’s chief strategist.
Bannon took over Brietbart to make it what it is today, an alt-right newspaper. Alt-right is another name for white supremacist. Bannon has stated that he would like to see the US government deconstructed and destroyed. Bannon dislikes Jews, Muslims, and any people of color.
The first thing a dictator does is suppress and control the media. This is what Trump and Bannon are trying to do. (I’m not saying Trump is a dictator, he is just narcissistic.) The next thing a dictator does is to take over the government agencies and destroy them. That is what Bannon is trying to do. Bannon wants to go to war. He wants war with China, war with Islam, war with the Press, and most likely with any person that doesn’t agree with his ideologies.
This is the man who now has a seat on the National Security Council and directs our president on what to do. Bannon knew he could never be president. He needed another way to push his agenda, and he now has his means, through the president.
Bannon is detrimental to the welfare of our nation since he is a Leninist.

Swalwell is another demonrat from the great state of CA that will continue to help seal the fate of this state to total disaster. Our roads and bridges are crumbling as well as our dams. Our schools are falling apart and our teachers don't want to teach. Our school board has become a political arm of the demonrat party and is showing our kids that breaking the law is ok if it goes along with your agenda. Instead, Swalwell is spewing the playbook of the demonrat party, obstructing what the majority of the american people voted for, minus the ILLEGALS VOTING IN THIS STATE. I, for one, MOOSETURD, am glad we have a few republicans in this state that try to stop the hemorrhage from the left. Unfortunately, it's in haste but someday, I hope we can turn this state around. By then I plan to be long gone.
