Major League FootGolf is making its debut this weekend at Las Positas Golf Course in Livermore with a season-opening tournament that has $5,000 at stake for players from across the country adept at the amalgamation sport.
“Pro footgolf is here,” MLFG Commissioner Qaiser Patel said in a press release. “This is more than just a game — it’s the birth of a professional sport that blends the precision of golf with the global passion of soccer. Players, fans and sponsors alike will experience something truly new and exciting.”
Footgolf is typically played on parts of a traditional golf course, with competitors kicking a soccer ball from the tee box toward an oversized hole located in the fairway or rough. The hybrid sport has gained momentum in recent years – the National FootGolf Association has held amateur events at Las Positas since 2023 – but Sunday (Sept. 21) will mark the first tournament where players can get paid, Patel said.
The debut tournament will see a dozen two-person teams from California, Hawaii, Texas, Florida and other locations compete in “a unique round robin and head-to-head format” with 5,000 in cash prizes on the line – “an unprecedented step that sets a new standard for professional footgolf”, according to Patel.
The event will also be videorecorded and televised at a later date to help with exposure nationwide and around the globe, the commissioner added. For more information, visit www.MLFGfootgolf.com.
