Amador Valley girls’ volleyball did something no other team in the East Bay Athletic League had been able to do so far — beat Carondelet.
And they did it by sweeping the Cougars 25-15, 25-21, 25-21.
Among the keys for the Dons was their serve-receive performance, as they had only one error in the match. Lulu Malakhova guided the team to a .323 hitting average, she had 35 assists as well.
Kana Clevenger went on huge serving runs, leading the team with 24 serve attempts and no errors.
Kaitlyn Carlock, Hayden Moe and Maddi Huddleston did a great job defensively and allowed the Dons to control the tempo throughout the match.
Sydney Goldstein and Charlotte Kelly scored 32 points (of the total 75 points we scored) on 56% percent of their swings.
Mirudhula Muruganandham was steady all night on the right side.
Foothill girls’ volleyball
The Falcons rolled to a pair of 3-0 sweeps last week to stay on top of the Valley Division.

Next was a 25-22, 25-16, 25-13 win over California. Kaycie Burdick (18 kills, 6 digs) and Paige Nelson (18 assists, 8 kills, 2 aces) led the way. Lulu Hoenninger (8 kills, 2 blocks) and Brooke Stedman (19 assists, 5 digs) both also played well.
Amador girls’ water polo
The Dons traveled south to the Arroyo Grande water polo tournament and went 1-3 in the strong event.
They opened the tournament falling 11-5 to Davis. Susan Swyers scored four goals, with Regan Braga adding the other tally.
The second game saw the Dons lose 8-6 to San Luis Obispo. Swyers had four goals and Braga two for all the scoring for the Dons.
Game three was another tight one, but Amador fell to Western 7-5. Swyers scored three times, with Braga and Olivia Ritter adding one each.
The lone win came in the final game where the Dons beat Arroyo Grande 12-7. Swyers went off with seven goals, with Kate Hopkins scoring four. Sophomore Addi Drain added one goal.
This past week, the Dons returned to EBAL play and lost 18-4 to Carondelet. Braga had three goals to pace the offense, while Swyers added one.
Football
The seasons continue to go in different directions for the two Pleasanton schools.
Amador Valley continued the turnaround with its third win in a row, beating Campolindo 37-7 last weekend, running the Dons record to 4-3 for the season.
The Dons have a week off then begin their EBAL grind of San Ramon Valley, Monte Vista and California.
Foothill, which started the season 3-1, has now lost three games in a row after falling to Dublin 18-14. The Gaels started the season 0-4, now stand 2-5.
The Falcons are traveling to Dougherty Valley this week, which has now turned into a must-win if they want to keep their playoff aspirations alive.
Dougherty Valley has lost its last two games by a combined 81-0, falling to Piedmont and then to Livermore in its EBAL opener.
