The Granada High School varsity football team is welcoming a new head coach for the 2024-25 season.
After coaching at Dublin High School — his own alma mater — for five years, Brandon Black will represent a new mascot, bringing his more than 20 years of experience coaching high school football to Livermore where he has lived for the past decade.
“We are thrilled to have Coach Black lead our football program at Granada High School. His energy, coaching philosophy, and leadership qualities are great additions to the positive culture at Granada High School,” principal Clark Conover said in a statement from the school district.
Black expressed enthusiasm to be working in the city where his family resides and within the same district that his children attend school.
“I have a strong desire to teach, coach, and make a difference in the community where my family lives. Granada has great kids, fantastic leadership, and incredible community support. I am grateful to be here,” Black said.
Black looks forward to developing strong relationships and a positive culture within Granada football that will result in team success and a sense of pride for the Matadors’ community, according to the district’s statement.
In his new role, Black is taking over from Marc Moses who was promoted to varsity head coach in 2022 after leading the junior varsity team at Granada for 11 years.
District officials declined to comment on details regarding Moses’ departure, however, they noted that, “despite the longevity of some coaches in our district, all coaching contracts are one-year contracts. This allows our administrators annual opportunities to make changes if desired, and for coaches to either reapply or not based on what best suits their personal and professional lives.”
The news of Black’s move to Granada comes after the Dublin Unified School District announced the hiring of former NFL player Napoleon Kaufman as Dublin High’s new head varsity football coach last month.
