It is spring break for the area schools, with the teachers and students getting a well-deserved week long break from each other!
It also means it is time for the Livermore Stampede softball tournament. This is the 29th annual event and once again it brings together elite teams from throughout Northern California.
Hosted by Livermore High, the tournament gives softball fans the chance to see some of the best teams and players lock heads over the three-day event.
Pool play takes place Thursday and Friday, setting up the bracket portion of the tournament all day on Saturday. There are four pools with four teams each, bringing 16 teams to the tournament.
Here are each of the pools, along with the overall records for each of the teams. This will be the first week in some time without any rain in the forecast, no doubt a welcome relief for all the teams, some of which still have only 3-5 games played this year.
Pool A: Dublin (1-5), Liberty (0-5), Livermore (6-3), Sheldon (5-2).
Pool B: College Park (4-0), Foothill (6-1), San Ramon Valley (8-0), Whitney (7-1).
Pool C: Freedom (0-3), Granada (6-1), Monte Vista (3-2), St. Francis (8-1).
Pool D: Amador Valley (3-7), Archbishop Mitty (6-1), Benicia (4-2), Carondelet (4-5).
At first glance it appears that the teams in Pool must have upset someone from the tournament as that appears to be the toughest group – by far.
San Ramon Valley is one of the best teams in the North Coast Section, along with College Park. Foothill, when healthy, is as good as any team here. Whitney (Rocklin) has only dropped one game in the always strong Sacramento area. Combined coming into the Stampede the four teams are a 25-2.
