Swimmers and divers from the Las Positas College men’s and women’s teams are competing this weekend at the CCCAA State Swimming and Diving Championships at East Los Angeles Community College.
The season-ending state competition comes less than two weeks after the two Hawks teams, consisting of athletes primarily from the Tri-Valley including Pleasanton, each won conference titles — the first for the men and the second for the women.
“We put everything into it this year. We had deep teams,” Las Positas coach Jason Craighead said last week.
The men’s swimming and diving team captured its first Coast Conference title with 820 points, more than 150 points ahead of second-place College of San Mateo in the eight-team conference championships.
The women’s team won with 666 points, 140 points ahead of Foothill College in second place.
These were the third and fourth conference championships, respectively, in Las Positas sports history. The women’s swimming and men’s soccer teams each won titles in 2013.
On the strength of their performances at the conference championship meets, the Hawks had two individual swimmers, five relay teams and six divers earn berths in the state event, which runs through this Saturday.
The diving qualifiers included Pleasanton natives Kaitlin Hausman, Angelica Leporati and Alexa Beaudoin Severn.
