Paula Creamer, who grew up and honed her early golf skills in Pleasanton, won last weekend’s Samsung World Championship at Half Moon Bay Golf Links.

Creamer, decked out in her signature pink, scored three under par 69 for the one-stroke win over Song-Hee Kim of South Korea. Her four-day total of nine under par gave the 22-year-old her eighth career victory, fourth this season. That is the most for an American, according to the Ladies Professional Golf Association, since Juli Inkster won five times in 1999.

After her victory, Creamer told the press, “This (win) means a lot. I put so much pressure on myself every time I come here and to finally have one, it feels really good.”

Creamer had three birdie putts on Sunday. A 4-foot put for par on the 72nd hole clinched the win, which earned her $1 million, bringing her earnings to $1.74 million for this year.

Next up for Creamer is the Longs Drugs Challenge, which began Thursday and continues through Sunday at Blackhawk Country Club in Danville.
