The Amador Valley Dons travel to Antioch High tonight for a 7 p.m. game with the Panthers, hoping for another resounding victory to boost their record.

The Dons overcame a league-opener loss a week ago to march to a 38-13 win last Friday night over Livermore High. The victory buoyed the Dons spirits after a devastating loss Sept. 28 to San Ramon Valley 23-13.

It also made for a boisterous Homecoming dance Saturday night as students celebrated the hard-earned victory over their Tri-Valley rival.

In their methodical touchdown-by-touchdown victory, the Dons’ defense held the Livermore running game, which had racked up 389 yards the previous week, to 211 yards on 29 carries.

The Cowboys’ two touchdowns came on runs of 65 yards and 35 yards, the second coming late in the game long after the outcome had been decided. On the other side of the ball, the Dons rushed for 281 yards, eating up big chunks of time almost every time they had the ball. The Dons struck quickly in each half, scoring touchdowns less than a half-minute into the first and third quarters
