Triple OT win advances them to semi-finals

The fourth-grade boys of the CCOP (#401) beat St. Isadore’s boys in a thrilling triple overtime game Sunday at St. Isadore. With Arnez Chafee almost fouling out and Michael Anastassiou being doubled and triple teamed, the CCOP players refused to give up and fought hard to beat St. Isadore’s undefeated team

The aggressive defense by both teams resulting in a roller coaster scoring for most of the game. It was in the last 15 seconds of the triple overtime game that the CCOP boys prevailed with a score of 29-24.

CCOP players Anastassiou, Chafee, John Dong, Anthony Doty, Karl Fernando, Cameron Freeman, Rod Hajian, Chandler Johnson, Daniel Payne, Enrique Perez and RJ Scott, led by head coach Kevin Coenen and assistant coach Ed Doty, will advance to the semi-final game on Saturday.

CCOP #7005 takes #7009 in back-to-back game

Two very strong and determined girls basketball teams met Sunday to earn a spot in the championship game scheduled this Sunday. CCOP (#7009) scored the first four points, which was followed by a game that never had a margin larger than three points after the opening lead. Both teams were evenly matched–there was a point spread of only one during a large portion of the game–either team had the ability to bring home the win. CCOP #7009’s team had balanced scoring–with eight of its nine players putting points on the board, lead by Elena Victor scoring a season high of 13 points. Rachel Orpina made 10 rebounds, and Marisa Victor made three assists. Even with CCOP #7009’s outstanding defense, with Autumn Whitney and Nicole Torquato holding their opponents high scorers, the team lost to #7005 32-30. Coaches Gregg Whitney and Alex Victor said they are very proud of all of the girls who played on team #7009 this year.

BUSC U11 advances to finals after beating Merced and Santa Cruz

The U11 Ballistic United Team (class 1) dominated the Merced United Lobos in quarter final State Cup play this weekend in Turlock, Calif. BUSC played their best game to date, with goals scored by Jackson Adams (two), Alex Valencia, Sam Olson and Marek Jurkiewicz. The defense–led by Joey DeVivo. Brian Hsu, Olson and Eric Toombs–only allowed a couple shots on goal. BUSC’s victory advanced them to the semi finals on Sunday against the Santa Cruz Breakers White.

The United team dominated in ball possession against SC, with two goals scored by Zane Manaa and one by Jurkiewicz, winning the game 3-1.

The United Team, coached by Sean Lemoine and Pablo Espinoza, now advances to the finals, facing Placer United Prestige Gold, to be played at 10 a.m. Saturday at Robertson Park in Livermore.

CCOP #625 crush St. Isadore

CCOP (#625) sixth-grade boys advanced to the semi final round in CYO playoff competition on Sunday 2/18 beating a tough St. Isidore team. The teams were evenly matched until Zack Summerfield closed the first half with a half court buzzer beater. The momentum turned in favor of CCOP with phenomenal play by TJ Friedl, Tyler Trinidad, Ryan Genn, Dustin Avila, Jerome Rigor, Josh Pease, Daniel Kuhfal, and Andrew Dato. The team was able to pull ahead and maintain the lead in the second half, ending with a 45-29 victory.
