The Foothill Falcons took control early in the game against California High School and never let go on the way to a 38-7 win. On their first two offensive plays, the Falcons (6-0 overall, 3-0 EBAL) scored touchdowns. The first on a 50-yard pass from Josh Mendonca to Ryan Thiege and the second on a tackle busting 20-yard run by Austin Day. Both plays were set up by impressive defensive efforts and huge punt returns by Jordan Johnson. By the time the first quarter ended, the score was 21-0.

From there Foothillís offensive line pushed the Cal defenders around the field, powering the offense to 297 yards rushing. Rob Andrews, who had 17 carries for 101 yards, and Day, who had 100 yards on only 7 carries, led the offense. Theige had two touchdowns and a combined total of 106 yards, 50 receiving and 56 rushing.

With the win, Foothill moved to the no. 19th-ranked team in the state and second in the North Coast Section (behind only no. 1-ranked in the country De La Salle) in the MaxPreps.com power rankings. Through six games, the Falcons have scored 108 points and allowed only 28. Next up for Foothill is a game tonight at 7:00 p.m. at Livermore High School (1-4, 0-3).

BUSC Class 1 U14 upset ACC Mavericks

In dramatic come-from-behind fashion, the Class 1 U14 Ballistic United team upset the first place and formerly-undefeated ACC Mavericks 3-2 last Saturday. ACC jumped to a quick 2-0 lead in the first half, but Ballistic didn’t give up and came back to score three second-half goals for the win. Derek Kanowsky scored the first goal on a penalty kick. Minutes later, Nick Pereira tied the game off a back pass from Zach Savoy.

Defense ruled the remainder of the game, with Evan Larsen and Eddie Schoennagel preventing ACC from creating any scoring opportunities. Lucas Crawbuck and Jonathan Yankowski were outstanding at midfield. With less than two minutes left to play, Garret Foster showed his usual bulldog like tenacity and won a battle for a loose ball and passed to James Metz, who volleyed in the winning goal.

BUSC Class 3 U17 Black remain in first place

The BUSC U17 Black took control of their division with a hard-fought 1-0 win over second-place Newark. The BUSC defense–led by Bryant Dante, Tim Gaisor, Kurt Lenamon, Trevor Dawson, Nick Bonham, and Kris Tayyeb–held their ground against an aggressive attack by Newark. They clogged the middle effectively and forced Newark to take shots from far outside. The only goal of the match was scored by Matt Carlucci who, off a cross from Joey Halim, hit the back of the net on a blast from the top of penalty the box.

BUSC Class 1 U9 wins in Danville

The U-9 A/C Bronze Ballistic Black traveled to Danville and came away with a 4-1 win over the Mustang Revolution. Barely two minutes into the match, while attacking deep into the Mustang penalty area, Chudi Atuegbu surprised the Revolution defense by scoring from 25 yards out after collecting a short clearing attempt by the Mustang. Seven minutes later, Ballistic Black made it 2-0 after a fine run up the left side by Cameron Ritchie set up Michael Anastassiou, who scored after getting past the last defender.

In the second half, the Revolution scored on a free kick from the top of the penalty box. The BUSC Boys answered back seven minutes later on a goal from Cameron Owens. Jack Traube finished the scoring to seal the win. Bryce Veit, Jacob Guzman and Sahil Patel led the BUSC defense.

Rage U19 Orange wins a physical battle

The U19 RAGE Orange defeated their Tri-Valley rivals, the Mustang XPlosion, 2-0 in the Pleasanton Sports Park Sunday. The first half was physically grueling as each team attacked and defended looking for a weakness in their opponent. The half ended in a scoreless tie as neither side would give an inch to the other. When the Rage were able to get shots on goal, Megan Gomez, Jamie Thurman and Heidi Larsen combined for 7 shots in the first half, the XPlosion goalie was up tot eh task.

The Rageís first goal came in the 6th minute of the 2nd half, when Defender Alex Martin booted the ball upfield to Gomez for the goal. Later in the half, on a 1-on-1 play, Larsen drew the Mustang goalkeeper out of her net and lofted a high shot over her head and into the goal for the insurance goal needed to seal the win.

U16 Rage Premier remain in first

The U-16 Rage Premier dominated the Marin FC ’91 Blue team in a 4-0 win that allowed the Rage to maintain their perch atop the Gold Division of the Golden State Soccer League. Chloe Langon had an outstanding game scoring one goal and assisting on another Marisa Fraticelli, Amanda Luxford, who scored off a free kick from 35 yards out, and Carlee Payne scored the other Rage goals.

The Rage controlled the pace of play as midfielders Olivia Klei, Sophie Metz, Raylene Larot and Fraticelli distributed the ball well and played “keep away” from the Marin squad.ÝThe Rage defenders–lead by Sam Cloutier, Rachael McGlinchy, Ashley Loughmiller, Esther Leon, Rachel Clark, Ashlyn Mazur, and Luxford–limited the Marin FC attack to very few offensive opportunities.ÝGoalkeepers Maddie Fox and Alexa Douglas did not allow a goal to share the shutout.

Registration for the 2007 Pleasanton American Little League season is underway.
