Victory for CYO 6th grade girls

In a game that started out with CCOP held scoreless until the second quarter, and only three points at the half, the team rallied in the second half to beat opponents SM/SC by one point. At the start of the third quarter, CCOP beat a fast break and passed the ball to Lindsey Godwin for a layup, which then started a series of scoring that added 10 points on the board for CCOP. CCOP tied the score at 13-13, then lost the lead going into the fourth quarter, and was down by five points. CCOP defense did a phenomenal job of holding SM/SC scoreless in the final quarter by beating their press while the team put six additional points on the board, in a nail-biting fight to the finish. Tied for first place

CCOP eighth grade girls finished league play tied for first place. Playing one of its most complete games of the year, the CCOP eighth Grade girl’s basketball team defeated Santa Maria of Orinda by the score of 34-20. This was an inter-league game involving a quality team and a member of the West Diablo CYO league that was undefeated in its league play. The game was played in Pleasant Hill at the Christ the King parish gym. With the victory, CCOP finished league play with a 9-wins and 1-loss record, tying for first in the Tri-Valley CYO league.

A tight defense was the key to this game as CCOP forced many Santa Maria turnovers, many which led to CCOP scoring opportunities. The tenacious team defense held Santa Maria to a mere six points in the second half while CCOP tallied 21 points. Britannia Bloom led all scorers with 13 points followed by Kendra Hessel’s 10 points while Alana D’Onofrio added six more. Hessel again added another “double-double” to her resume by pulling down 10 rebounds.
