Black Tie Transportation has launched its first all-electric bus that will help the Pleasanton-based chauffeur company continue services such as operating the city’s senior transportation program while also reducing its carbon footprint.

The Alameda County Transportation Commission — in partnership with the city of Pleasanton — funded the initiative that the transportation company said in a recent press release shows a “shared commitment to sustainability and community support.”

“The introduction of our all-electric bus is a significant step towards a more sustainable future, for the entire community of Pleasanton,” Heidi Murphy, the city’s director of library and recreation, said in the Black Tie press release. “We are excited to celebrate this milestone and continue serving our beloved community with care and sustainability.”

Black Tie Transportation is a longstanding luxury transportation company that offers a vast array of services. But one of the services it’s also known for locally is the Pleasanton Rides program, which is a door-to-door, shared-ride transportation service for seniors who live in Pleasanton and are 70 years or older.

Those seniors who are eligible pay $3.50 for a one way trip or $7 for a round trip to their doctor appointments, physical therapy appointments, shopping trips and more, according to the transportation company. The program operates 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. every Monday through Friday.

According to the Black Tie press release, the addition of the electric vehicle will help the company continue its mission to ensure Pleasanton’s senior community has the access to essential services and activities, all while being eco-friendly.

“At Black Tie, we are committed to reducing our carbon footprint and embracing green technology,” company founder Bill Wheeler said in the press release.

Pleasanton Rides uses three vehicles — a van and a shuttle bus, apart from the new electric vehicle — to drive Pleasanton senior residents to and from places in Pleasanton, Dublin, Livermore and specific areas in San Ramon.

Seniors who qualify for the program can call or email the transportation company to request rides.
