Alyssa Smith, the aquatics coordinator for the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District, was recently recognized by the Bay Area Public Pool Operators Association for her outstanding contributions to the aquatics program.
During the year and a half that she’s been with LARPD, Smith played a pivotal role in revitalizing the organization post-pandemic, notably by increasing staffing by 45% and streamlining swim lesson programs, LARPD officials said in a statement.
“Alyssa’s passion for aquatics and her tireless efforts have raised the bar within our organization,” aquatics supervisor Patrick Lucky said. “Her ability to motivate and inspire both colleagues and the community at large is truly commendable.”
As aquatics coordinator, Smith has shown dedication to community engagement through her organization of signature events such as the Pumpkin Splash, Polar Bear Slide and Water Safety Day. The events garnered enthusiastic community participation and provided valuable education on water safety and rescue techniques for patrons of all ages, according to LARPD’s statement.
Smith has also helped maintain morale and encourage participation among the staff. “Her ability to engage staff in the events is invaluable,” Lucky said.
LARPD pool maintenance specialist Steve Sommers was also spotlighted by the Pool Operators Association for outstanding pool maintenance.
Both Smith and Sommers were recognized at an awards ceremony in November held at the Robert Livermore Community Center.
