A Livermore man died when his motorcycle was struck by a vehicle turning across North Mines Road late Tuesday afternoon, according to city police.

“The initial investigation suggests the driver did not see the motorcyclist and failed to yield to the motorcyclist. Police do not believe drugs nor alcohol played a role,” the Livermore Police Department said in a statement.

The situation occurred around 4:50 p.m. Tuesday, reported to police as a traffic collision involving a red Honda CRV and a motorcycle on North Mines Road at Shirley Way. The T-intersection does not have a stop sign for either direction of North Mines Road.

Police reported that the motorcycle was traveling northbound on North Mines Road when the southbound SUV started turning left from North Mines Road onto Shirley Way and collided with the motorcycle.

Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the motorcyclist — identified only as a man in his 30s from Livermore — was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. His name is not being released publicly yet, with family notification pending.

The SUV driver, described as a woman in her early 60s from Livermore, remained on scene and was cooperating with the investigation, police said. Her name was also not revealed.

The circumstances of the deadly collision remain under police investigation.
