Airport Open House

The Livermore Municipal Airport is set to host its 26th annual open house this Saturday (Oct. 7) from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., inviting people of all ages to learn about aviation and regional services offered by the city-operated airport.

This year’s free Airport Open House will feature “static display of general aviation, military/warbirds, antique/classic, experimental/homebuilt and aerobatic type aircraft; general aviation aircraft fly-bys, representatives from flight schools; airborne law enforcement and air rescue aircraft; LPFD safety house; LPD exhibits; aviation vendor display/information; and mobile gourmet food from the Food Truck Mafia,” city officials said.

Airport tenants’ aircrafts will also be on display, and local aviation businesses will share more about their activities, officials added.

“Hosting the Livermore Airport Open House isn’t just about showcasing aviation,” Livermore City Manager Marianna Marysheva said in a statement. “It’s an opportunity for the community to gain a better understanding of the services and many benefits provided by the Livermore Airport to the greater Tri-Valley region.” The airport is located at 680 Terminal Circle in Livermore.

Organized by the Pleasanton Downtown Association with approval from the city government, the program born from the COVID-19 pandemic aims to allow patrons to roam the street unencumbered and businesses to expand operations outdoors. The 2023 series ran from May through October, typically on the first full weekend of the month.

Special activities this weekend will include the second annual PDA Hot Rod Car Show from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. For more information, visit www.pleasantondowntown.net.

Christening ‘Stanford Medicine Sports Complex’

Pleasanton city officials, Stanford Medicine representatives and members of local youth sports groups are set to gather on Saturday morning to ceremonially dedicate the facilities at Bernal Community Park as the “Stanford Medicine Sports Complex”.

The health care organization secured naming rights as part of a multiyear sponsorship agreement announced in 2022. In addition to the entire complex, Stanford also received title rights for the now-rebranded “Stanford Medicine Stadium Field”.

“As the newly named Stanford Medicine Sports Complex is a shining jewel of the city, we hope all can join for this ceremony,” said Michele Crose, assistant director of the city’s Library and Recreation Department. “The city is pleased to team up with Stanford Medicine, a sponsor that shares our vision and values, and we thank the sports user groups and Stanford Medicine for their support of Bernal Community Park.”

The naming ceremony is scheduled for Saturday (Oct. 7) at 10 a.m. in the plaza area at Bernal Community Park at 7001 Pleasanton Ave.

Rotary Chili Cook Off

The Rotary Club of Livermore Valley is holding its third annual Chili Cook Off this Saturday (Oct. 7) from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Carnegie Park.

The event will serve as the largest fundraiser of the year for the Rotary Club, providing money for its community grants program and support for local families, veterans and schools, organizers said.

“The entire community is invited to enjoy a day in the park tasting the best chili in town, sampling local beer and wine, shopping local merchants and artisans, and participating in activities at community booths,” Rotary officials said.

The Cook Off will also include a children’s area with interactive activities, food and beverage vendors, live music, more than $5,000 in raffle prizes and the unveiling of the chili competition winners at 5 p.m. Learn more at livermorevalleyrotary.org.

Meet with Dublin police officials

Residents will have two opportunities to meet with top officials from Dublin Police Services at community events this weekend.

On Saturday, the local chapter of the Asian Pacific Islander American Public Affairs organization and Breaking BEARriers will host a conversation with Dublin Police Chief Nate Schmidt and Capt. Gurvinder Gosal at the Dublin Senior Center from 9 a.m. to noon. The event will feature three sessions (senior, youth and general public) and community performances.

Then on Sunday, Schmidt will join Mayor Melissa Hernandez for a community bike ride through Dublin starting at 9 a.m. “The ride will start at Dick’s Sporting Goods and make stops at Emerald Glen Park and Don Biddle Community Park for community conversation, and end at the Dublin Public Safety Complex.
