Residents, community groups and businesses joined forces in Pleasanton earlier this month to prepare more than 600 holiday wreaths and place them at the gravesites of military veterans interred at Pioneer Cemetery and the adjacent St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery.

Navy veteran Don Crocker, who served during World War II, laid the first wreath at the base of the Pleasanton Veterans Memorial and volunteers distributed the others on Dec. 17. The decorations will remain in place through New Year’s Day.

The 2022 program was led by Venture Crew 937 of the Boy Scouts of America, under the direction of Cassidy Dyson. Other organizations involved included Veterans of Foreign Wars 6298, American Legion Post 237, Pleasanton Lions Club and military personnel from Camp Parks in Dublin. Fresh Cut Christmas Trees at the Pleasanton fairgrounds provided all the materials to make the wreaths.
