‘Know Your Zone’

Pleasanton officials are encouraging residents to research where they would evacuate to in case of wildfire or other emergency, as part of the “Know Your Zone” campaign.

The advisory was issued in the wake of multiple vegetation fires in Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department jurisdiction in recent weeks, most notably the 71-acre blaze on Pleasanton Ridge that forced evacuations of the Golden Eagle Way neighborhood on the afternoon of June 23.

Pleasanton and Livermore use online emergency management tool Zonehaven, which is integrated with the cities’ notification systems and available for residents to access evacuation updates in real-time.

They urge residents to visit community.zonehaven.com, sign up for the AC Alert system and follow city, police and LPFD accounts on social media.

State of the City in Livermore

Livermore Mayor Bob Woerner is set to deliver his State of the City address next Thursday (July 14) at the Wine Country Event luncheon organized by the Livermore Valley Chamber of Commerce in the LARPD Robert Livermore Community Center.

Woerner is expected to talk about a range of topics, including the city’s progress on downtown projects (housing, hotel and amenities including parking and green space), progress on housing and infrastructure citywide and delivery of key city services, the city’s General Plan update, and the status of the city’s fiscal health and resources to meet its obligations,” chamber officials said.

“The business community is looking forward to hearing from Mayor Woerner about progress on initiatives important to the city’s economic health,” said Dawn Argula, president and CEO of the chamber. “The chamber has been supportive of the city of Livermore and its leaders on key issues affecting the local and regional economy.”

“We are excited about returning to the in-person luncheon format for the State of the City event, and all protocols will be observed to protect our guests and to comply with the Alameda County Public Health Department’s COVID-19 orders in effect at the time,” she added.

Lane stepping down at EBRPD

Beverly Lane, a former Danville mayor and longtime member of the East Bay Regional Park District Board of Directors, announced Tuesday that she would be stepping down at the end of her current term this fall.

Lane’s departure from EBRPD’s Ward 6 seat, which contains the San Ramon Valley and is the only ward entirely within Contra Costa County, would come after roughly 28 years in office, having been elected in 1994.

During her tenure on the board, Lane’s emphases have been preservation of open spaces and access to public parks and trails. She was one of the founders of the Iron Horse Regional Trail.

Lane first moved to Danville with her family in 1973. She was among the first members of the Danville Town Council, following the town’s incorporation in 1982, where she remained until 1993.

In addition to her Ward 6 seat, Lane is co-chair of Friends of the San Ramon Creek and curator at the Museum of the San Ramon Valley, where she also served as the founding president for the museum’s Board of Trustees.

Having studied English and history in college, and going on to earn a Masters in Public Administration, Lane has spent her career focusing on the natural and cultural resources of the San Ramon Valley during nearly 50 years as a Danville resident. She has authored a total of four books on local history.

The regional parks in Lane’s Ward 6 include Las Trampas, Bishop Ranch, Diablo Foothills and Thurgood Marshall. The 2,500-acre Thurgood Marshall park, formerly part of the Concord Naval Weapon Station, is a new addition that had been championed by Lane. She has also spearheaded efforts to create an agricultural park in Danville, on the long-vacant portion of Armand Borel’s former walnut orchard.

Lane will serve out the remainder of her term, which expires at the end of 2022. Her successor is set to be elected by local voters in November’s general election.
