The Pleasanton City Council is set to consider approving financial allocations to nonprofit organizations in the Tri-Valley area through annual community grant programs Tuesday evening.
If passed as recommended, the council would allocate a total of $1,184,796 to the various programs.
Approval and allocation of Housing and Human Services Grant and Community Grant Program funds for the fiscal year 2022 grant funding cycle will be the first item, with staff recommending funding for the various categories reviewed totaling to an amount of $591,562.
A breakdown of the total amount is $223,528 for general funds, $73,606 is recommended for the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) administration, $239,223 for CDBG capital and lastly $55,205 for CDBG public services.
The Housing Commission recommends allocating $512,234 to housing related projects to be divided between Lower Income Housing Fund ($386,299) and HOME Fund ($125,935.)
The Civic Arts and Youth commissions recommends $81,000 in community grant funds to various programs and initiatives.
The second item is the annual action plan for the use of federal CDBG Funds.
Pleasanton is expected to receive approximately $368,034 in federal CDBG funds and the council is anticipated to take action regarding granting these funds as part of the allocation of the Housing and Human Services Grant funding the local nonprofits.
This report summarizes the action plan for fiscal year 2022 that must be submitted to the U.S Department of Housing and Urban Development in order for the city to receive its allocation of CDBG funds. The report makes a recommendation to approve this document.
The last grant-related item on the agenda is the consideration of $50,000 for the Three Valleys Community Foundation.
Following the council’s suggestion in January this year, the staff is recommending funding as a one-time allocation — totaling $50,000 — to be paid to 3VCF over three years.
Under this grant agreement, the city will provide the nonprofit with financial support of $50,000 in three equal annual installments. Funding for this agreement in the first year is available from 2021-22 fiscal year general fund contingency.
The two future years’ payments will be budgeted as part of the upcoming 2022-23 and 2023-24 budget process.
3VCF is a new nonprofit that was created in late 2021 and serves Alamo, Danville, Dublin, Livermore, Pleasanton, San Ramon and Sunol. Its vision is to enhance the quality of life in the Tri-Valley and the greater East Bay area by developing creative solutions to challenges faced by the community.
In other business for the council, presentations are scheduled for proclamations recognizing May as Jewish American Heritage Month, Lupus Awareness Month and Older Americans Month, respectively.
The council meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Tuesday (May 3). Read the full agenda here.
