The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances of a woman being found dead Monday in an arroyo area not far from a shopping center and freeway in Livermore.

Limited details are available at this early stage of the investigation, but “at this time, foul play does not seem to be a factor,” Officer Tyler Hahn, of the CHP-Dublin office, told the Weekly.

It is unclear whether authorities have confirmed the woman’s identity yet.

The call came in just before 2:30 p.m. Monday with a report of a woman possibly deceased in Arroyo Las Positas, south of Interstate 580 eastbound and north of North Livermore Avenue, according to Hahn. The area, which was not far from the parking lot near the Kohl’s and Walmart stores, appeared to be a place where some transients were residing.

CHP and Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department units arrived on scene, and LPFD personnel confirmed that the woman was dead, according to Hahn.

The CHP is leading the investigation because the discovery was made within state property near I-580. The pending autopsy report from the Alameda County Coroner’s Bureau is expected to reveal more details about the woman’s death, according to Hahn.
