As county restrictions ease, the Bankhead Theater in downtown Livermore is planning a series of early concerts for 44 patrons at distanced tables in its courtyard. The intimate shows will feature a comedy opener followed by live music, with tickets for $20.
“We’re eager to bring live entertainment back to the Bankhead and are always looking for different opportunities to activate our spaces with the arts,” said Chris Carter, executive director for Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center.
“These intimate events in the courtyard will bring people downtown at the end of their workday or prior to dining out. The Courtyard Concerts are the logical next step in our ramp-up to opening again fully.”
The series kicks off at 5:30 p.m. next Friday (April 23), with Bay Area comedian Brian Maggi followed by guitarist James Robinson.
Masks will be required, and concessions will be individually served. As Alameda County health restrictions are lifted, capacity will be increased.
Maggi was a co-creator of a tech lampooning magazine, “In Formation,” in the late ’90s, and he went on to write sketch comedy for the legendary Second City in Chicago. He first gave stand-up comedy a try in San Francisco, and has since regularly performed at clubs and events around the Bay Area.
Robinson grew up in Campbell and learned piano before moving to guitar at age 12. Inspired by range of styles from around the world and across genres from jazz and classical, to blues, country and rock, Robinson creates a magical fusion of sound.
In addition to Courtyard Concerts, the Bankhead’s outdoor space will host the Livermore Drum Circle on the first Thursdays of May and June, which will be limited to the first 25 people to register. For more information, visit livermoredrumcircle.com.
The Quest Science Center exhibit, “Sketches in Code,” is already open in the Bankhead Gallery. Also, the Bankhead Theater will begin film screenings in May, and live performances are planned for the summer, Carter noted.
