Parks Reserve Forces Training Area in Dublin, more commonly known as Camp Parks, has a long and storied history serving as a military base for the Tri-Valley area. In recognition of that local impact, the Museum of the San Ramon Valley is hosting a special virtual presentation examining its past on Thursday (March 18).
Residents are invited to view the event entitled “Camp Parks: When War and National Security Came to the San Ramon and Amador Valleys,” which will feature local historian for the city of Dublin Steve Minniear, who formerly served as the president of the Dublin Historical Society.
“Today the area around Camp Parks is a growing residential community bordering a BART station. It is hard to imagine that at one time its boundaries spanned from San Ramon to Dublin and played a major role in both our local history and national history,” museum staff said.
Since 1942 hundreds of thousands of armed forces personnel have lived and trained at the local base, which museum staff say played a key role particularly in the Pacific theater during the second World War.
The special virtual event is free to view and will be held Thursday (March 18) at 11:30 a.m. Interested residents can register for the event on the museum’s website, or by calling 837-3750.
The Museum of the San Ramon Valley is located at 205 Railroad Ave. in Danville. The museum, which has been closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, is scheduled to reopen this Friday (March 19).
