The California Highway Patrol H-30 medevac unit responded to Del Valle Regional Park on the outskirts of Livermore on Sunday morning to assist local fire departments in airlifting a 14-year-old mountain biker who was found unconscious after crashing on a remote trail.

The boy sustained major injuries and was transported to UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in Oakland; “fortunately the rider was wearing a helmet, which prevented him from sustaining more serious injuries,” the CHP said on social media. An update on the rider’s health status was not available as of Tuesday.
