Thousands crowded downtown streets Wednesday night for another 1st Wednesday Street Party with more than 200 dogs highlighting the event with the popular annual Pooch Parade.
The weather cooperated with temperatures in the low 80s for the evening.
Dogs of various sizes and breeds filled Lions Wayside Community Park ahead of the street party with owners signing them up to participate in the parade and some registering for show and tricks competitions.
Some of the dogs were in costume, ranging from a Mexican hat to a Lion-like groom. Some wore the green Guide Dog covers, green coats.

Photographer Chuck Deckert, who snapped Pooch Parade photos for the Pleasanton Weekly, wasn’t about to forget his own Zoey, ready to march up Main Street in Wednesday night’s annual 1st Wednesday event sponsored by the Pleasanton Downtown Association.
The dog that looks like a Lion is a 2 year old golden named Jackson. He was real sweet. We were sitting next to the couple who were Jackson’s parents. You can see my golden retriever’s head in the background of the same photo! His name is Kodi, short for Kodiak.
The pooch parade is always a highlight for our family. So much fun for such a great cause. Thank you for hosting this event every year! Can’t wait for the 20th one in 2017! We will be there with our 8 year old Kodi and yet to be named new golden retriever puppy coming in 6 weeks! After Kodi’s sissy Sierra, also a golden, passed away 6 weeks ago, he has been lonely for another fur sibling…
We need more food truck options at this event! Four food trucks was not sufficient and the lines were very long as a result. We ended up eating at a restaurant, so it was good to support local businesses, but really prefer to “eat in the street” and mingle with the masses than sit at a table like we could any night of the week.
I love the photos. More???
