The Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department will host a free Fire Safety Expo from 8 a.m. to noon today at the Fire Training Tower located at 3301 Busch Road in Pleasanton.

The event is part of the National Fire Protection Association’s nationwide Fire Prevention Week.

This year’s fire prevention message is “Prevent Kitchen Fires.” Two out of every five home fires start in the kitchen. Cooking is the leading cause of home fires with unattended cooking a factor in 34% of reported home cooking fires.

Saturday’s event in Pleasanton will feature giveaways, firefighter demonstrations, fire escape planning, information on fire safety and more.

Those at the event will be invited to tour of the department’s fire safety trailer and training facility, learn how to use a fire extinguisher and obtain disaster preparedness information.

Children also will be able to test their skills at an obstacle course as part of other demonstrations and activities planned for them.

To kick-off the event, the Livermore-Pleasanton Firefighters Foundation will host a pancake breakfast from 8-10 a.m. Donations will be accepted in support of local charities and the Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
