Pleasanton’s popular Dolores Bengtson Aquatic Center has reopened after a one-year renovation.

The reopening was marked by a gala ribbon cutting ceremony at the Mayor’s Award dinner with several hundred guests applauding the pool work’s completion.

The renovation included the relocation of the diving pool into the existing 25-meter pool by way of an “L” shaped design; replastering of the two pools; installation of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) access to the two pools; deepening of the 25-meter pool for future and potential competitive use; replacing the existing decking; and new plumbing, electrical, heating and filtration systems for the pools.

  1. When we found out about the renovations we were very excited about the potential for some new pool features. However, we were disappointed that they did not include any “fun” or family-friendly upgrades. It would have been great if they had installed a “splash pad” or water play structure similar to the features at the Community Pools in Livermore and San Ramon. We will continue to swim at those pools and enjoy the features they offer.

  2. The project was completed in a timely manner; however, I don’t believe it was well thought out. In addition to omitting a family friendly splash pool, there is actually a reduction in water surface area because the diving pool was filled in. A small diving area was constructed on the side of the 25-meter pool but does not come anywhere close to replacing the much bigger diving pool which was lost.
