The father of the 18-year-old under investigation for running down a bicyclist on Foothill Road has been charged by the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.
Police serving a search warrant on the Echo Court home of Cody Hall, the driver who struck and killed Diana Hersevoort on June 9, found a cache of firearms, according to reports. The warrant was related to a vehicular manslaughter investigation involving the teen, according to the report. He was alone in the house when the warrant was served.
“While serving the warrant, officers located a large gun safe containing two illegal assault rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition,” a news release from the Pleasanton Police Department said. “The safe belongs to Cody’s father, Aaron Hall, who is a twice-convicted felon and is therefore prohibited from possessing any firearms.”
The locked gun safe was in the garage of the home. Inside the safe, police also seized four Daytrana patches that Aaron Hall had without a prescription, according to court documents. Daytrana is stimulant used to treat ADHD.
Aaron Hall has two prior felony convictions, but information about those cases, from 1993 and 1994, was not immediately available.
Investigators served the warrant on June 30, two weeks after Hersevoort died. They forwarded their case to the D.A.’s office, which filed felony charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of an assault weapon, possession of ammunition by a felon, and possession of a non-narcotic controlled substance.
Police obtained a $640,000 arrest warrant for Hall, who turned himself in July 11. He was booked at the Santa Rita Jail, where he posted a reduced bond of $265,000 and was released the same day.
An arraignment is set for July 24 at Pleasanton Superior Court.
Cody Hall was not charged, but the case involving Hersevoort’s death remains under investigation by the Police Department’s traffic division.
So the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Great role model.

For anyone who thinks that Cody Hall deserves a break or has suffered the least little bit of remorse . . . . . think again.
This family is trash, not one of them has a redeeming bone in their body. They conduct their lives in a way that ensures that other people will pay the consequences. What a role model his daddy is. A convicted felon (does anyone know the felony charge?) who buys the little brat a total a 3 cars to wreck, one of which takes out an innocent person.
Please contact the district attorney (Nancy O’Malley) to recommend that the most serious possible charges be leveled at Cody. No other innocent people deserve to suffer at the hands of this disfunctional family.

Above commentators are missing the key point here. The fatality on Foothill is tragic. But now we have the nanny state barging into a citizen’s home and confiscating his constitutionally guaranteed assault rifles.
Can there be any doubt that the Obama administration is behind this, using the tragic accident as yet another rationale for violating our precious but now constantly eroding constitutional liberties?
Has Obama no sense of shame? We live in a society where first they tax our tanning salons, then they prevent us from purchasing big gulp drinks of soda, and now their invading our homes in search of our much need assault rifles.
Its up to the American people, just like our rebel patriot four fathers, to step into the breech and stop the overreaching state from stripping us of our basic liberites.

It amazes me how lightly people on this forum make and pass judgements on something they know nothing about. No one here has DIRECT knowledge of what happened. You don’t know this teenager. You do not know his family. They are loving parents and good, working class people, born and raised in this town long before it became the wealthy, white-washed version of little house on the prarie it is today.
I hope as people and as parents you never have to face what they are about to. Because judging from the attitudes posted here, it will be difficult for them to raise and nurture their other children when his name does eventually come out.
It is an absolute tradgedy what happened and every thought and prayer goes out to the family of the victim. But publicly crucifying this kid and his parents is going to solve what, exactly? Traumatize two families? Vindicate the woman who was killed?
They say it takes a community to raise a child. Act like that, a community. Support the family who lost a loved one and support a child who is going to need it in the months and weeks to come. At the end of the day, his failure is a testement to all of us, not just him and his parents.
And until we find out exactly what happened…please let’s keep the speculations, judgements, and political debates to a minimum.

Yeah, Will, I have to admit that I have a pretty clear conscience: I have never driven down Foothill road at 85 mph. I have never tweeted about going down Foothill road at 85 mph. I have never tweeted a boast about speeding down the freeway and putting the innocent lives of others on the road – including women and children – at risk. I have never been arrested for felony drug possession. I have never put the lives and welfare of my neighbors and community at risk by possessing illegal assault weapons. How about you?

This is sounding more like a which hunt. Anyone who drives down Foothill can see how a bicyclist can get hit and killed rather easily and unintentionally. I think this heartbreak is getting out of control and there is so much nastiness here.

Does it seem a little strange that the father did not think, my son has run a lady down and they might press criminal charges against him, so maybe I should get the guns and drugs out of our house before they come and search our home??

Your last sentence about the NANNY state is interesting, all things considered equal, both cyclist and car had the right to the roadway, the Hersevort’s were in a marked bike lane, whose rights were taken away? Diane lost her life to a punk ass kid who should not have even been behind the wheel of a car (or tricycle for that matter), enabled by his parents and the judge who threw out previous speeding tickets. Maybe Cody and his father can share a jail cell together….
Okay you all need to take in consideration of the woman who died because of this and what her family is going through not some dumb teenager that doesn’t know how to drive!

Mmmmm…Gun safe in garage that Cody has access to.. “Cody is this your gun safe?” “No, it is my father’s gun safe”. Mmmmm….father is a twice convicted felon….Mmmmm…the law says he cannot own guns, but he has a gun safe, “Mr. Hall please come open your gun safe for us”…no response from Mr. Hall. Ben, if you’ve been following the developments in this story at all, it should be apparent to you that this was a tragedy waiting to happen. If Diana Hersevoort hadn’t been riding her bike and gotten hit on that day, it was only a matter of time until some other unfortunate person crossed paths with this out-of-control driver who liked to boast of going 85 mph down Foothill drive and even faster on the freeways. In fact my wife and daughter frequently travel down that road by car in order to get from our house to I-680 so, yes, I take it a bit personally when some nut boasts of recklessly driving down Foothill Road at 85 mph.
Your feeble attempt to paint this story as just some unfortunate tragic accident that could have happened to anyone is laughable in view of the FACTS that have been made public thus far. At first, everyone did think that this was just an unfortunate accident, and if you look back at the original PW story you’ll see that commenters were initially expressing sympathy for both parties involved in the accident. It was only after further information was made public about the driver’s public social media posts and tweets that the “pitchforks” came out – and deservedly so.
Lets think about this~Aaron Hall has done 2 things that have caused him to be a 2 time felon, he again does not follow the rules of being a felon and has both guns, ammo and drugs in his home and we wonder why the son Cody is not a rule follower??
This is sad for everyone involved. I do wonder why police would do a search warrant? Is this normal for a car accident? I think they used this case to search this house.
Speeding is a serious problem in this city. During my nightly run, I see at least 3 to 4 cars speeding down Valley at more than 50 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. I think PPD needs to step up their traffic enforcement and issue more citations. That way we can get the repeat offenders off the streets.
I have no cares at all about why the PD executed the search on that house. Three cheers for them for doing it, whatever the reason.
If you are a convicted felon you should have no rights at all to EVER refuse a search. Best thing that could happen to this world is to lock up the entire family and throw away the key. Daddy is a convicted felon, a druggy, an idiot — no surprise how the son turned out.
As for the “piling on” charged by some posters . . . just exactly how many crimes does one family need to commit before law abiding people have the right to determine them to be a bunch of creeps? Now I make it clear that I’m not being judgmental or anything by posting this. After all, who among us hasn’t at some time or another assaulted someone with a deadly weapon or fired a gun at an inhabited building? I’m certain that this man’s neighbors on Echo Court are extremely upset with the police for unfairly taking away this poor man’s illegal assault weapons. I know that if I lived on Echo Court I wouldn’t give even one second’s thought to the idea of putting up armored steel plating around my 6-year old daughter’s bedroom simply because my neighbor was an ex-felon who was convicted of firing a gun at an inhabited building and had illegal assault weapons as well as thousands of rounds of ammunition in his possession.

PLEASANTON — The father of a teenage driver suspected of fatally hitting a Dublin bicyclist last month was arrested Thursday after police found illegal weapons in his house while serving a search warrant on his son, authorities said.
Officers served the warrant on 18-year-old Cody Hall in hopes of finding evidence that may contribute to the investigation into the death of 58-year-old Diana Hersevoort, according to Pleasanton police Sgt. Mark Reimer.
Police said that about 1 p.m. June 9, Cody Hall hit Hersevoort with his car as she was riding her bike with her husband on Foothill Road about a quarter-mile south of Golden Eagle Way.
Cody Hall was the only one home when officers arrived at the residence in the 4200 block of Echo Court on June 30, Reimer said, and while searching the house, they found a large gun safe in the garage, to which Cody Hall said he did not have the combination.
After officers were unable to get anybody to come home and open the safe, they forced their way in and found two illegal assault rifles and thousands of rounds of ammunition. Further investigation revealed that the gun safe belonged to Cody Hall’s father, 43-year-old Aaron Hall, a twice-convicted felon who is prohibited from having any firearms in his possession, Reimer said.

Court documents also indicate that Aaron Hall had recently tried to purchase another firearm but had been turned down due to his criminal convictions.
Officers also confiscated from the safe four Daytrana patches, an amphetaminelike medication used to treat ADHD, that Aaron Hall had without a proper prescription, according to court documents. Officers found no weapons in Cody Hall’s possession, and none of the evidence taken from him was of a criminal nature.
“We did collect some things related to his case, but they’re requiring further analysis,” Reimer said. “There wasn’t any contraband as far as Cody was concerned.”
Pleasanton police handed Aaron Hall’s case to the Alameda County District Attorney, who charged Aaron Hall with several felony charges, including being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition and being in possession of illegal assault weapons. He turned himself in Thursday after officers obtained a $640,000 warrant for his arrest.
Aaron Hall was booked into Santa Rita Jail, where he later posted a reduced bail of $265,000 and was released that same day, Reimer said.
“I can’t speculate as to what kind of punishment he will face or what time he would serve,” Reimer said. “I would expect that it would be counted in years, not months.”
Cody Hall’s case remains under investigation by the Pleasanton Police Department’s traffic division, which is handling the case separately from his father’s. Aaron Hall is scheduled to be arraigned July 24 at the Gale Schenone Hall of Justice in Pleasanton.

@Tiger. That is what we heard as well. Tire marks indicate this as well. I hope PPD/DA investigation is thorough and completed soon. The extreme recklessness of his actions should hopefully equate to a long prison term. Maybe he can room with his father.

I am not sure you are aware the PPD has been short staffed (based on current population levels) and needs more cops. The Traffic Unit has also been cut. This will only get worse with all the new housing already planned to be built in Pleasanton.
So the father is now in custody for breaking the law. I guess what I want to know is why did this kid have a license to drive a vehicle if he already wrecked two and had speeding tickets? Hello??? Reply to Huh: The City Police Blotter has been dead since Feb. It took two requests before I got a response. They are too busy. Send your request to reactivate it through the city website. It’s a valuable service. There is a non-government site that lists arrests of Ptown residents but the city site used to list arrests by Ptown officers.
