An Arizona man has been sentenced to more than four years in prison for a string of 2012 bank robberies, including U.S. Bank branches in Pleasanton and Dublin.

In a plea deal with federal officials, Raymond David Lopez, 30, of Tucson was sentenced to 51 months in federal prison for bank robberies he committed in May and June of 2012.

Lopez pleaded guilty on April 3 to six counts of bank robbery. He admitted using verbal demands, a demand note, and intimidation to take $2,475 from a U.S. Bank in Pleasanton on May 9, 2012, and $756 from a U.S. Bank in Dublin on June 12, 2012.

He also admitted using the same method to take $2,606 from a U.S. Bank in Pleasant Hill on May 13, 2012; $1,409 from a First Community Bank in Alameda on May 26, 2012; $1,135 from a Bank of America in Lafayette on May 29, 2012; and $4,900 from a U.S. Bank in Alameda on June 4, 2012.

Lopez also admitted to three other bank robberies outside the area, also done in a similar way, in which he took $7,214 from a River City Bank in Roseville on April 26, 2012; $3,542 from another River City branch on May 2, 2012; and $4,000 from a Woodforest National Bank branch in Amarillo, Texas, on April 14, 2012.

He was indicted by a federal grand jury last August after a joint investigation that included work by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, in conjunction with the Dublin Police Department, Pleasanton Police Department and others in the area.

The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Court Judge Phyllis Hamilton, who also sentenced Lopez to three years of probation and ordered him to pay a total of $28,037 in restitution to the banks.

Lopez will begin serving the sentence immediately.

  1. 4 years is all he got for MULTIPLE bank robberies?! Does this have anything to do with our prisons being full, in no small part due to the flood of illegal aliens we have in California who commit crimes at 3 times the rate of citizens? This guy should have received 4 years for EACH bank robbery.

  2. Only 4 years for all these bank robberies? This is not appropriate or reasonable. And chances are he will not be paying the restitution money back… so how does this light sentence deter others from robbing banks?

  3. If you scale this guys sentence so it’s the same time per amount stolen that Bernie Madoff got, 150 years for stealing $65 billion, this guy should have gotten 30 minutes of jail time for stealing $28K.

  4. In my opinion, the numbers of illegal aliens arrived centuries ago when they just came ashore and called the home of Native Americans their own.

tee hee hee…also, if georgia gorg doesn’t like living in the good ole USA, go back to where your ancestors came from…tee hee hee

The USA is a GREAT country and is made up of forners…just sayin’

  5. Aw cummon now. This is non-violent crime and with just a bit of counseling he will be a law-abiding contributing member of society.

  6. This is sad….he will only serve about 18 months of this sentence or less with time served credits while he waited for trial. Then probation and he out to do it again.
