A 55-year-old woman was robbed after leaving the Pleasanton BART station Thursday night, according to police.
A man allegedly approached her from behind, threatened her and grabbed her purse before escaping by car. She was was not injured and the purse contained only a checkbook and some paperwork because the woman had both her wallet and cell phone in her pocket.
The car was described by police as an older four-door, white or cream colored sedan with a darker colored roof.
The suspect was described as a black male in his mid to late 20s and was about 6-feet tall. He was also described as having a medium complexion and a thin mustache. He was last seen wearing a red-hooded sweatshirt.
There was no description of the individual driving the car.
The woman had crossed over Owens Drive and and was proceeding southbound on Willow Road when the incident occurred, according to Pleasanton police. She was staying at a nearby hotel on business.
The car took off eastbound on Owens Drive and some of the purse’s contents were found dumped on the on-ramp of eastbound Interstate 580 from Hacienda Drive following an area search by a police officer.
“Obviously they just went up to the first traffic light, made a left and got on the freeway,” Sgt. Mike Tryphonas said.
No weapon was displayed or seen, according to police.
I walk from the BART to my car in the parking lot when it’s already dark outside – 7pm and I do think it’s a little scary, although there are a few people walking nearby at the same time. I’m not sure what we can do to prevent these types of things from happening, besides having some security guards in the parking lots. I try to look around and be careful, but being a petite woman, I feel particularly vulnerable. Hopefully, these incidents are few and far between.
Forgive my lack of experience in these matters, but what is the role of BART Police in such cases?
If you’re assaulted or threatened by other riders, report the incident to the BART police and they will run for help!
If you get robbed, run for you life because BART police do not get involved.
Hmmmm.. interesting…wasn’t Cholo the one who argued on another posting that Pleasanton teens shouldn’t take BART to Oakland?
I guess this incident points out that crime can happen anywhere. Even in lil’ ol’ P-town.

BART is safe as long as you are with a friend and you take the proper precautions. This is not 1960…things are different now. With risk there comes reward.
Oakland is not Pleasanton. We do not have the same crime rate as Oakland. Assess your personal risk properly. Stop living in a Pleasanton bubble.

Stacey – your posts are nothing but nonsense. You should get off your computer and get out of your bubble (I noticed the majority of postings come from you on this site anyways….. I just see your name – don’t even bother to read most of your junk) – there are some beautiful parts of Oakland. Yes, there are unsafe parts of Oakland, but there are unsafe parts of San Francisco too. That’s like saying that all white people are a certain way, or all black people are a certain way. I assess my person risk property just fine. That’s why I moved to Pleasanton. But it doesn’t stop me from visiting other places. Looks like your bubble needs to burst, sister. Grow up.

I didn’t say there are some safe parts and unsafe parts or that all black people are a certain way and all white people are a certain way. I said the crime rate was higher in Oakland than in Pleasanton. Maybe you read too much into what people write and let your buttons get pushed too easily.
Women are more vulnerable than men when it comes to crime. The design of the Pleasanton BART station is such that I won’t take the train if I’m going to be returning at an off-peak hour after dark. It’s a long, dark, isolated path from the station to the parking lot.
That reminds me, has anyone taken an adult education class in Pleasanton at the buildings on Bernal and First Street? The area around the buildings and parking lot is very dark. Not only is crime a concern, but safety. There was an elderly woman in the class we all had to assist because of the darkness and all the steps and ramps leading from the classroom to the parking lot. I will never take a class there again. If they won’t light the area to provide a safe environment for students, I’m not going to give them my money.
I am beginning to believe that Stacey is a troll- an internet junkie that randomly posts in online forums merely to agitate other posters and not a resident of Pleasanton at all. From herhis posts on this site, I have gathered that shehe would be content with Pleasanton becoming another Oakland, complete with freeways criss-crossing town and the crime rate and population to match.
She would like nothing better than to have Pleasanton transformed from the family community it is now. Most of us moved to Pleasanton because we like it just the way it is, and see no reason to change it just to accomodate other communities that are growing out of control around us. You bore us Stacey- move on.

i agree james. i think she uses a few alias’ as well cause she knows that she needs someone to agree with her! crime is going to happen anywhere, but if you are hunting you go to the woods.
