Comfort pack donation drive

A Military Appreciation Day donation drive, sponsored by Operation: S.A.M. (Supporting All Military), will be held at Wal-Mart, 4501 Rosewood Dr., Pleasanton, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 5.

The drive is collecting various products to put in comfort packages that Operation: S.A.M. will pack and ship to U.S. deployed military serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. A drive-by drop-off point will also be available.

Lobster Bake

Pleasanton resident Dale Vaughn-Bowen is holding an informal Lobster Bake on Aug. 12 from 6-9 p.m. to celebrate the 23 awards won by her Crooked Vine and Stony Ridge wineries.

For $75, guests can enjoy two glasses of the award-winning Stony Ridge wine and an assortment of seafood. Tickets are available by calling the winery at 371-8156 or by visiting the tasting room during regular business hours, 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Thursdays through Sundays.

Sister city BBQ

The Pleasanton/Tulancingo Sister City Association is hosting its annual barbeque fundraiser Saturday, Aug. 12, from 5:30-11 p.m. at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds “Ivy Glen” area, 4501 Pleasanton Ave. Cost is $30 in advance, $35 at the door and $240 for a reserved table for eight. A-bomb survivors demonstrate

A survivor of the atomic bombing of Hiroshima, Keiji Tsuchiya, will speak at an Aug. 6 rally in Livermore to mark the 61st anniversary of the event.

Demonstrators plan to gather at the corner of Vasco Road and Patterson Pass at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory at 8 a.m. for speeches and ceremonies and will march to the laboratory gate at 9 a.m. for a nondenominational ceremony.

The rallies are linked to events at nuclear weapons sites across the country. Information about the effort is available at the Web site www.august6.org.
