Karen Diaz, who has more than 20 years of municipal government experience, was named City Clerk of Pleasanton this week by City Manager Nelson Fialho. Diaz will complete her work as City Clerk of Union City on June 23 and start her new job in Pleasanton on Monday, June 26.

Diaz, whose husband Fred is the City Manager of Fremont, has also held city clerk positions in Brentwood and Escalon and was also city clerk in Indio, where the job is an elected position. In Brentwood, which has no community television system to broadcast municipal meetings, Diaz set up a Web-based streaming video system where residents could tune in to City Council and other public meetings on their computers.

Although TV30 community television broadcasts the City Council meetings here on Channel 29, along with some workshop meetings, Diaz’s system could be used to make more documents, agendas and minutes available on the Internet from a variety of other Pleasanton public meetings.

Diaz succeeds Dawn Abrahamson, who left her City Clerk’s post earlier this year to take the same job in Fremont.

Diaz has served as Treasurer and chairwoman of the Northern California City Clerk’s Association. She and her husband and their daughter, Alana, 8, live in Fremont.
