Downtown Pleasanton is set to be filled with folks of all ages running or walking — many costumed — to support the philanthropic projects of the Rotary Club of Pleasanton next weekend.

The 31st annual Halloween Spirit Run, which is the club’s largest fundraiser each year, benefits Rotary’s scholarship program for Pleasanton students as well as its community and international projects.

“The Rotary Club of Pleasanton encourages runners, walkers, and people of all ages to join them for this family-friendly, community event,” organizers said in a press release. “Based on the proceeds raised by past events, the Rotary Club of Pleasanton, since 1993, has awarded over $1 million in community grants and scholarships to Pleasanton students to further their education.”

The 2024 Spirit Run is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. next Sunday (Oct. 13) on Main Street in front of Workbench True Value Hardware — the same spot where the run ends as well. Rotary is offering 10-kilometer and 5K run/walk options, which wind through downtown and surrounding neighborhoods. A quarter-mile kids’ challenge (ages 5-12) and a 100-yard dash (ages 5 and under) are also on the docket.

Registration is underway through race day, with online signups open until next Friday (Oct. 11), an in-person opportunity at Fleet Feet – Pleasanton at 234 Main St. on Saturday (Oct. 12) from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and on the morning of the race from 7-8:15 a.m. in the Workbench parking lot.

Organizers encourage all participants to get decked out in costumes that morning as part of the Halloween spirit. For more information, visit spiritrun.pleasantonrotary.org.
