Niles Canyon Railway representatives are gearing up for their marquee program of the year, with ticket sales launching on Saturday morning for its Train of Lights.
Running on select evenings from Nov. 22 through Dec. 30, the Train of Lights offers a 1.5-hour roundtrip ride on the rails from the Niles Station (4:30 p.m. departure) and the Sunol Station (7:30 p.m. departure) complete with “refreshments, music, and cheer aboard our antique coaches and open cars that feature holiday lights and decorations inside and out”, NCRY officials said.
“The Train of Lights offers a rare opportunity to experience a train ride through Niles Canyon at night. With one departure from Niles at dusk and a second departure from Sunol after dark, you can choose your favorite time to ride,” officials said. “The earlier Niles departure leaves when it’s still light enough to enjoy the beautiful scenery of Niles Canyon but dark enough on the return trip to enjoy the train’s mesmerizing lights.”
The ride, which raises money for the nonprofit, includes general seating, first-class dome, first-class parlor, private caboose or even full train rental.
A popular holiday season activity for residents from the Tri-Valley and across the East Bay, Train of Lights dates often sell out quickly — which sometimes overloads the NCRY website on the first morning that ticket sales drop.
Tickets for the 2024 Train of Lights go on sale starting at 10 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 5); NCRY reps urge prospective buyers to directly visit the ticket vendor fareharbor.com. More information on the program can be found at ncry.org.
